We're talking about the AF-S 28-70, why bring up a comparison on the 28-70L vs the Tamron? :dunno:

I hope your two guys used the 28-75 to take the table shots too :) Being used often doesn't mean it's good, I can tell you why people would choose a 28-75 during weddings mostly will be for the reach. Why people would want to use a WA like 17-40L or AF-S 17-35 would be mostly for the dinner table shots, and since changing lens is time consuming, mostly would just stick with a WA. If I had a PA, I'd be shooting with a AF-S 28-70 and changing lens as needed. I'd even shoot the tables with a 28-70 if I had the standing space (after FLM that is... hee)!!!

The exact similar idea for the release of the 17-55 DX. The extra reach and yet wide angle.

Nah.. you don't need a 28-70 f/2.8 to make a comment, I don't own one either :bsmilie:

Well, i am bringing up the comparison of the L glass vs tamron coz that is what I have seen being compaired directly with pics and reconfirmed with first-hand accounts/comments from people who has much more experience than me. Previously all i relied on is MTF charts and mag reviews, the latter being notoriously inaccurate sometimes. :) There is no tamron vs AF-S compario, but what i can find is this. http://www.nelsontan.com/reviews/afs/AFS2870test.html
That is why i reserve my comments, even though i do not think they are very far off from each other.

A bit OT here, but just to share bits. I also originally thought that one needs WA to capture the table shots.
Yup, they used most of the 28-75s that night, one other even used 70-200 biasing the long end. I have indeed learnt much unconventional stuff from the 2 masters that night, the resulting pictures do not lie. Skills can make up for "so-called" equipment deficiencies as generally thought, that was a real eye-opener for me. 70-200/2.8 also can take the couple coming in on the red carpet....even a 30-year old RF can take lots of good pics with just a single carefully selected prime (depends on what the couple wants).

Have learnt great flashing tips too. I was using ultra WA that night with the sigma 12-24 to cover the lower end "fun" range with SB-800 off-camera for convenience. Anyway, there is no need change lenses, 2nd bodies help heaps (film also can, changes da mood and colour...).

BTW, i am a Nikon user. ;p So no offence dude, just that i work with Canonites.

Anyway, 28-75 with 1.3x is 36.4. Sorry. ;p But still not very WA lar.

No no, you got me wrong, I'm not saying other lenses than WA cannot be used, I would very much like to use a 70-200VR f/2.8 too if I ever get the chance to shoot one, but the flexibility & usage doesn't really justify that len, guess having another photographer with a different range gives such flexibility. I believe even a 500/4 can be used as well. Serious.

Yeah, having multiple photographers & extra bodies allows such flexibility, wait till you're shooting alone and you'll see the need for speed & a one len does it all thingie!

No offence taken, I do shoot and go out with Canon users. The smarter ones that is.

tsk tsk tsk... :nono:

Like i said, the proof is in the pudding. Already enlisted one of them to shoot my wedding for digital duties, and he managed to switch a deal that day from another photog to him. I know good pics when i see them, thank you. :)

Congratz! Another bachelor (or rather pretty lady) no longer available

Alright, maybe i had a hard day. Lets not spoil the thread. I have seen other pros work, I also originally thought it's pretty unconventional and "definitely not workable and stupid lar"....but another very lao jiao since-1960s Leica/Contax kind of photog told me... "there are no rules"....."as long as it works". I'd definitely love to share how it works and he manages the crowd but guess this is not the place. (nor have i gotten permission). Convenience may make one lazy, what is good about his method is management of distortion and different perspective from what one usually sees (you can browse lots in singaporebrides.com.sg).
Cheers! :D
