Has anyone tried putting a TC with the AF-S 105mm Micro VR?

The Singapore Nikon site does not say it possible, but the Global and USA Nikon sites say:

Optional Accessories: 62mm screw-in filters, AF-S Teleconverters* TC-14EII/TC-17EII/TC-20EII
*Autofocus operation is not possible. (VR and AE functions are available.)

Yes, it is possible. I have personally used it with the TC-17EII.

Other than the reduced Aperture, everything else remains (apart from image quality).

You may like to refer to my thread.

Cheers

what about the older AFD 105mm micro? issit possible to put a TC-14EII/TC-17EII to get a further working distance and bigger magnification than 1:1?

no, the older 105/2.8 micro lens is not AF-S. you could do some mod on the TC tho but that is up to your discretion.

I was surfing the Nikon site on the 'archived' section and it said that the TC-201, TC-301 and TC-14A can work on the AF-D 60mm and 105mm Micros amongst other lenses. Did the old TC's have the focusing screws like the Tamrons?

i was thinking of using it for macro shoots, so having no auto focus issnt a problem.
but would i still be able to use all metering modes, select aperture via body etc etc.... ?
any drawbacks? i believe i can achieve a further working distance and greater magnification right?
was thinking of the 1.4X TC to make it roughly 150mm. with 1.7X TC would probably be too hard to hand-hold

better to use a tripod. your shutter speed might not be high enough for handholding. macro photography is more dependent on MF than AF.

agreed

macros are best done with a tripod, cable release, mirror lock up, reflector, screen, flash, flash bracket, plamp, etc. the VR does help when you go for the casual macro shoot, but the benefits deminish quickly the closer-up to you get.

as for the 105mm mirco with the TC, i think the worry is the hunting when using AF. when you shoot macros, you no longer have the luxury of f2.8, and you still have to allow for the lost in stops for the TC. less of an issue if you like to go manual focus (preferrably with tripod setup and 2x angle finder).

the singapore website looks to take after its "garment"... cover backside with steel plate!! :bsmilie:

so, lets say if i use a 1.4X tele together with the nikkor 105 f2.8D, i shouldnt have much problem right if i do manual focus? i do not use AF at all for macros.

If your are using the TC14EII from Nikon, then you will have a problem fixing it on the AFD105/2.8D. other than that, then it is no prob.

ohh, so i cant mount the TC14E(II) onto the AFD 105 as tat is meant for AF-I and AF-s lens right?
so if i want a TC for AFD lens, which TC should i look into? i think the TC17EII also is for AF-I and AF-s lens only right? according to nikon singapore site....

mmm... a side question, what's the effect of the TC mounted on the 105 VR? does it increase walking distance? Meaning, does the magnification factor remain the same or increase?;)

Kinda tempted to get this lens...
