Guile - are you using the zenmuse gimbal, some complain of having the landing slide and propeller in the video when flying.
do you have the same issue ?
looking at upgrading my motor to T motor for more responsive motor and uplifting torque for the motor .
pls let us know if you have any good contact for modification of motor and services.
Hi Sam, yes I'm using the Zenmuse. I think no matter what gimbal you are using, you will definitely see the landing gear and propeller in the video if you are flying using Wide FOV on the HD3.
A couple of ways to over come this.
1) Shoot in Medium or Narrow FOV on 1080 60/50p. You can still see the props but it is not as much as in Wide FOV.
2) Do not fly too aggressively. Slow and steady and let the MC drift once it has momentum. You will need to shoot in Atti mode though to achieve this. GPS mode will make the MC hold its position instead of drifting.
3) Use a third party landing gear eg Simensays Landing Skids like the one Derek Yeo uses is good as it has a wider stance.
4) Tilt the gimbal to an angle that will lessen the probability of the props and landing gear come into view.
5) Crop and slightly zoom in. You will loose quality but it is still good enough for 720p. Otherwise shoot in 2.7k and crop and zoom and you can still get good quality at 1080p output.
6) Try not to shoot with the camera directly facing the sun, the shadows of the propellers can appear in the footage even if the propellers are not in view. This can't be avoided unfortunately.
7) Balance your propellers and motors to lessen the vibrations....the dampeners can only do so much. I can still get jellos using the Zenmuse under very bright conditions, but they do provide with 3 different sets of dampeners of different hardness for you to experiment.
Actually the major complain of the Zenmuse gimbal is that some just make a sharp squeaking sound and one of the motors start to overheat after a couple of flights. This is covered in various forums and the only solution is to return and have it exchanged. Touch wood mine is still working fine.
If you are planning to get the Zenmuse for the Phantom, do consider getting the Phantom Upgrade board instead of the PMU v2 as it will lessen the overall weight by about 60grams (Compared to having the PMU v2 and GCU soldered on the existing Phantom board).

You will need to do a lot of soldering though to use this board. But it has everything built in for the Zenmuse as well as the slide lever attachment to tilt the gimbal.
Another cheaper but excellent alternative is the Tarot T-2D for the Hero 3.

This does not require you to solder anything and it can be easily removed and used as a standalone handheld gimbal. It beats using a Steadycam Smoothee for the GoPro if you thought of using your GoPro as a steadycam or attach it to other stuffs eg, car, bicycle etc.. I'm not sure if you can find it locally though.
I'm also looking to upgrade my motors in the event that one dies. The T-Motor anti gravity motors seems like a good alternative, but again, I can't seem to find it locally.

At almost $200 USD for 4 motors, it is quite expensive. Maybe you can check with Derek whether he offers any services to modify the Phantom.
