Hi all
I am currently exploring stepping into the world of dslr...
i actually shortlisted my list to the Pentax istDL, KM 5D, Nikon D50, Olympus E300 and Canon 350D.
The 350D, well is most expensive. The E300 I did not like the feel and the D50 was a trifle too bulky for my liking (I have small hands and no real requirement for many lenses).

So it was down to the Pentax (cheap!) and 5D (stabilisation).
With KM now announcing they are exiting the market and Sony taking over, is it prudent to actually buy a 5D now (probably at clearance sale prices?) and hope Sony will make your ownership enjoyable or go for the Pentax (since they offer decent performance, good price and still around?).

anyone knows what is the current price of a 5D now?

thanks

Get Pentax if you are really worrying about the future. You have to take note that once Sony takes over, chances of the accessories being very expensive is predictable.

Pentax's SMC lenses are legends by themselves, like Minolta, they are not very good in their marketing department. Top range pentax lenses can most probably rival "L" and "VFS" Lenses.

apparently pentax coming out with body shake reduction soon.. you might want to wait awhile

thanks direwuff....I would suppose when that happens, cost will go up but they will clear the current DL at much better price? Then I go for the bargain DL instead! :bsmilie:
Anyway, it looks like I will have to follow in your footsteps to sell off my FZ5 too....;)

i sold off fz5 long time ago.. now trying not to buy new stuff, save money

anyway usually pentax goes for the budget dslr users so i don't anticipate that the new model will be particularly expensive. prob less than sony model haha

10 mp with shake reduction, i guess it still gotta cost quite a bit. i'm also hoping for the price of pentax *ist dl to drop further, although it's already very cheap.

do u know what u need? 350D= too expensive, E300 = dont like the feel? , D50 = too bulky?, Pentax = u like becourse its CHEAP? , 5D = u like as it has got stabilisation?

Too me, its better for u not to buy at all, u are not even sure whether u like photography in the first place. DSLR are not toys! U will so end up giving up the hobby only when u see all yr pics are blur. I am sure u have did a field test on almost very brand u can find so far, get something below $500 plus to start with first, dont waste too much money on a DSLR, u still need flash, lenses, filters, tripods, bags, drybox, cleaning tools..etc...i think u never even thought of those i mention yet, gona cost u a bomb.

thanks for the advice...I don't have the urge to buy accessories, so that's not a major concern..heh heh but I do want to buy a dslr camera and currently I have shortlisted to the Pentax and 5D. I am leaning towards the Pentax due to price, size and currency of model.
I'm not particular about the features...just a basic model will do..
