Adapter for Nikonos-mount lenses

Good day! Just a quick query here:

Can Nikonos-mount lenses be used on traditional camera bodies with the aid of an adapter? I am assuming it is completely different to a Nikon mount, but are there adapters available to allow say. use of a Nikonos lens on a Nikon camera?

Thanks, hope to get some responses on this.

Almost all nikon lenses can fit the old body without any adapter. But not those lenses designed for digital. Try the nikon section, this is the wrong section ;)

Oh, I wasn't enquiring about the traditional Nikon lenses, but rather, lenses that were made to fit a Nikonos camera body...the amphibious beast. Can Nikonos lenses be adapted to fit on traditional SLRs?

Not that I'm aware of, because there is big mismatch in aperture and signal coupling. Besides that, not sure what is the purpose as all nikonos lenses (other than 35mm and 80mm) are calibrated for uw perspective and will not be able to focus sharp for land use.

The other way is possible, i.e. adaptor for mounting nikon lenses onto nikonos body, for underwater use.

Thanks for the detailed reply. I'll have a think over this. Currently I don't own any Nikonos gear but was contemplating getting one as a separate system for foul weather use, and underwater stuff if I ever get involved.

I was assuming that some wide angle lenses could potentially work on land when stopped down sufficiently, but I'm sure that the water-lens boundary has a lot more to do with that than just DOF.

To my knowledge, you cannot use the Nikonos (I assume you mean Nikonos V, not Nikonos RS) lenses on normal Nikon bodies. Firstly, Nikonos V lenses are manual focus there are no electrical contacts that could link it with a Nikon body. Secondly, the good Nikonos lenses are specially designed to be used underwater, and do not focus above water. I am not sure how they do this, but when you look through the view-finder above water, it's all just OOF. And if you shoot a photo above water, no matter how far you stop it down, it's still just a blur.

Confirms my worst fear that they will not work on normal cameras, even the amphibious lenses. The Nikonos V itself doesn't even have a rangefinder or a way of focusing TTL, so it'd pretty much be shooting by guesstimate, even with the 35mm amphibious lens.
