Innovation killed them... the digital age.....

But I think cd or sacd are still the best... if you are an audiophile.

Thanks cheesy for helping out on this....

This is a sony thread.. must remind self........ my tv made in Japan crt and lcd and MIJ vcr all lasted very well.... that's years back...

After MIJ vcr gone, had another one lasted over 3 yrs only or so.... not MIJ...

My discman all died due to wear and tear...

I read on b&h a sony user sold off his alpha, lens accessories to the reliability issues.....

I do not know.... I think buy electronic is dependent on luck too....

As I'm considering Sony A7, wat I'm worried most is about parts.... since the product life cycle is so short.....

Years ago bought a JDM mini laptop before the days of Netbook or MacBookAir...battery, hinge etc all died within 15 months. The early Sony smartphone also have the same issue. As I've personally experience a few Sony Kill Switch issues previously, hence I'll tend to believe them. Sony's products over the past few years seems to be much more reliable...but Sony seems to want to make my home a landfill by constantly updating their products. I now have more outdated Sony cameras than I have working ones. Hiaz!!!

my experience was Epson printer man after 13th month the LCD display show you need to bring the unit for maintenance... and the printer just stop working no error messages or something.. search it in the net and found some users have the same issue.... they said the printer is bricked and the maintenance cost exceed the price of the printer...

Shoot more, worry less :)

it reminds me of my vaio laptop purchased few years back..
i bought it for over $3k and lasted just 12months precisely. 1 day after the warranty expired it went off.. the symptom is keep restarting every 5-10mins without any specific error. I had it checked in the service center and was told it's the motherboard issue and cost me $1k+ to replace it.. might as well buy a new one like that.. i was really pissed with the quality of the product..
either i was really unlucky for this laptop or somehow they have some kind of timer installed in the product that can really blow up once the warranty expired - that's what i was thinking at that time

hope it won't happen with my A7 now *finger crossed*

Eh.... electronics are bound to fail sooner or later.....

But when it fails and you cannot get parts for it... that is gonna be a pain....

And if the stories are true... I would expect a cam from C, N or F to outlast a S...

I have read of a US user gave up and sold all his Alpha gears due to the S equipment issues.... so I am holding out for A7 for now... Damn... why dont' Zeiss have AF for C....

I have another thought....

Example: Canon 7D is in production for so long... and parts will be more available... and after the launch to date, it is still in production. Does it shows that Canon believe the product failure rate is lower and last 4-5 years or more till the next model?

Sony models DSLR (prosumer range) in production for around 2-3 years only.... is it because by 2-3 years, most likely the cam will spoil and need a replacement?

One thing why 5DC can reach legendary status is also it is in use for so many long years... A99 is hard to reach that status if it is in a shorter cycle.....

I have a friend who paid a lot for her Vaio too... but is now using Mac book.... I think she also had a lot of issues with her Vaio when it started having problem.... as she was complaining about it a lot....

For a $3K lap top... should last for at least 3 yrs plus without issues.... I believe laptop, best would be Asus, Toshiba, Lenovo or Mac.... avoid HP, Sony.... Acer heard have improved the heating issues, so is better now... but I never have an Acer...

After reading the Sony Kill switch... I activated my "Kill Sony" switch for now and hang on.....

Perhaps by excluding the AF mechanism makes Zeiss glasses less headache about electronic failures.

It is true.... In fact, Zeiss gave out 3 yrs warranty for my ZE lens.. and I was a bit shocked... 3 yrs... thought about it... ya.. no AF.. and minimal electronic... and you seldom hear of Zeiss lens failure....

Was doing MF for a wedding (as a guest) and missed some shots for it... and Zeiss bug bitten me... so that's my problem... wonder if possible to trained still MF faster than AF...

I saw the FE 24-70 F4 and it is well made too....

I did thought of getting Alpha or A7 for the Zeiss AF... KIV for now.... Will train more in MF first before I hoot anything....

My 400D is still functioning well since 2006... coming to 8 years in service..... I would love a Sony that can last as long....
