Yeah true... what's your shooting style bro? to me I like landscape and architectures so I need a wide lens that's sharp thats why I've choosen 17-50 Tamron its cheaper than 16-80 the plus is constant F2.8... and I have the prime 50mm f1.8 for portraits... but if you like indoor shots I think 35mm is the best prime for you :)

Build your lens 1st bro :) accs you can buy later the must have accs is tripod (for now buy the cheap ones) and camera bag. I find flash a good accs also but not always needed :)

bro.. thx for the suggestion.. ;)

im more to general photography.. so tammy is great..
and i love to shoot my kids indoor.. dats why i need a fast lens..

will list down and sort my priority..

bro then tammy 17-50 + 35 f1.8 is your best combo and bang for your bucks :) no other else :) the kit lens 18-55 is good but I'm sure you would want more sharpness and versatility you'll be getting with Tammy :)

I am also thinking of getting 35mm f1.8 hahaha rightnow I have 50mm f1.8 and I am using that to fend off the BBB virus of 35mm, for how long I dunno *lols*

You might want to consider a 2nd hand 28/ 2.8 or 24/2.8. I foudn that i it more often then most other lenses on a A700. It should be a bit cheaper as well.

My most used lens on A55 is the 28/2.8 since 35-40mm (35mm equiv) is my favorite & most used FL

Other than that:
- 50/1.4 (low light & full body portrait)
- 11-16/2.8 (I consider this 11mm prime, lol. since I shoot 11mm all the time)
- 85/2.8 (upper body portrait, this cheapo & super lightweight lens is a good alternative to 85ZA :p)

Tried 17-50/2.8 & 16-80CZ but still prefer lightweight primes setup like the above

I think Sigma 24-70/2.8 HSM is a good alternative too, altho pricier & heavier, its much sharper, longer & faster AF

Also itched to try out the 85/2.8 as well, and to complete the "budget range" of 35, 50 and 85mm...

Can the Sony 35/1.8 replace Tamron 17-50/2.8 in actual daily use? Since the Sony is right in the middle of the Tamron range, is it a matter of walking a few steps forwards or backward to frame the picture? Is the bokeh comparable? For bros who have both, please advise.

You wouldn't have the same perspective ! ...with the zoom, it's like shooting with a 17mm, 35mm and 50mm primes.

depending on what u shoot and preference, of course a zoom lens is more flexible compare to a prime lens. a prime lens will be sharper at the same aperture most of the time compare to a zoom lens. Bokeh wise will also be better on the prime

Its quite good actually. Fairly sharp wide open. Compared to 85ZA, its colour not as rich, contrast not as good, doesn't have that 3D look, most obvious is its cheapo built quality & 2-stop slower. But then again 85ZA is 6x more expensive & 4x heavier.

If u dun demand the utmost IQ & can live with the weakness above, I say its a damn good buy at S$350+. Throw it in ur bag & u wont even notice its there. :p

:thumbsup::lovegrin:

yup the 11-16 is Tokina

Lol, the 85ZA is CZ85 bro, its the same lens. anyway isolation of 85/2.8 is not bad, except Zeiss glass has this 3D look, the subject always seem to pop.

my dream lenses Tokina 11-16 and CZ 85mm

But the CZ85mm I doubt I could afford it hahaha. But I did tried once from Nikkor 85mm from my Brother who uses it man it was nice i fell in love with it I bet CZ 85mm would be as nice or even better

The 85ZA is not as perfect as ppkl thought tho :D. it has severe CA (quite common for most 85/1.4 lenses), slow & noisy AF since using body motor and at more than 600g, its front heavy for small bodies such as A33/55.

Yes. I had the cz85 for a brief period. Not only its heavy, its also quite big on A550 and A700. Only with grip then it handles better.

But this beast is really nice to hold as its fully metal. The only issue as mentioned by some bros is the heavy ca at f1.4-2. But its completely gone by f2.8 which is not very good for such a pricing, though i know many other camps' 85mm have the same or worst issues.

Another thing the af quite slow, even using A700. Probably the A33/55 might have better luck but with such small body, i think not many will match these 2 together.

On a a850/900, its the ultimate beast to own for portraits. I think many are hoping sony to quickly update it with ssm, just like the new 24/2.

Another even better one with lesser ca is 135/1.8cz.

Thanks bro for the feedback regarding the expenssive CZ85mm... Well as much I like the lens I dont think I could afford it... might as well invest on my UWA Tokina 11-16 constant f2.8 :) I thnk this will be more useful to me, since I shoot landscape more than portraits... and I am just a hobbyst it's hard to justify to my Finance Minister such tag price :)

Just picked up my SAL35F18.

i find that it hunts a little more than the 50F18 in low light and in certain situation, it was juterring back and forth and could not lock focus.

and sometimes, it moves a bit, trying hard to focus, it doesnt have any sound or movement for 1 to 2 secs, then suddenly, it continue to focus again.

the can see the movement in the distance scale, trying to fine tune between the 3m mark and the infinity mark.

Wierd...

am using center single spot focus.
