Hi

I'd borrowed my brothers A1 for a long trip to Europe in April but am concerned about the CCD problem plaguing several KM models.

My questions:
1) Is the CCD failure progressive or sudden?
2) Short of the catastrophic/gross failure, how can I tell if the CCD is dying

The camera was bought about a month before the A2 was released i.e. Dec'03-Jan'04, so I guess it may be affected by the CCD problem.

The last thing i need is to lug a useless cam for the whole trip. I've a pns digicam for casual shots but depend on the A1 for more serious pics.

Appreciate your feedback.

well...my first digi cam was A1, and this problem occured to me suddenly. was like nothing wrong yesterday, then nxt morning, the ccd kept showing beautiful waves of red. it was pratically unusable as only a faint background shows the picture. sent it to servicing, is okay till now. bought my cam during july 2004.

i would suggest you bring the camera to KM servicing b4 they close. your camera is definately belonging to the batch where the ccd problem arose. from my experience with my A1, this problem appeared after about 1 year of usage. so i suspect you will never know when this problem will bug your camera. bring it to KM for suggestions(since it is stated by KM that they will fixed the problem FOC)

You can't tell when it is going to spoilt. If you dun mind the trouble/weight, bring a backup PnS camera with you lor.

Got a Pana fx-09 as back up already.... not sure how much use to send to KMSC as it's still OK. Still boils down to individual judgement, I guess.
