You only noticed the zooming car...?
But at least you noticed the girl who smiled for the camera. Sweet, but not the girl of my dreams though. :)

Thanks for viewing!

the first one done in black and white maybe better. :)

I like the first pic because it is like old and torn umbrella on the left, new and colourful umbrellas on the right... kinda cool... but the van zooming past has taken the "limelight".

The passerby who smiled at you, if that is not someone you know, then you had a good catch! Hardly we get strangers in Asia who will smile at a street photographer.

What are these pix about?

I was trying to capture the mood of people going about on a gloomy rainy day.
The first pic was to highlight the difference between the tense man with the beat up umbrella against the relaxed mood of the 3 ladies with their spanking new bright colored umbrellas.

The second was to capture the rush of people crossing the road, hence the motion blur. It was cropped to remove other distractions to focus on the smiling lady. BTW, the smiling lady was a bonus.

The pics are not as sharp as I would like it to be due to the high ISO and low shutter speed (and maybe a little bit of handshake due to my mediocre skills ;p ). And I also tried to retain the "gloom" of the weather by not bringing up the brightness too much.

Taken using a D50 with kit lens.

Still learning... hope to get more advice from fellow CSers out there.

Thanks for the comments.

The zooming car was intended to show some motion to represent the busy street, but I guess it didn't work huh... :bsmilie:

Yes, I was lucky with the smiling lady indeed. Usually I get angry stares from ah peks when I aim my camera at them. I only realized she was smiling when I was reviewing the pics as it was part of a bigger group crossing the road. Too bad it wasn't sharp...

Really? Hmmmmm....

Waileong & Angiee :

Thanks for the honest opinions. The intention was there but obviously the results turned out otherwise. Will try again on another rainy day and see if I can improve. :)

i like the 1st pic..
by separating the guy n group of ladies
u like tryin to tell a story
that's why i like it

The multitude of colors - this is life itself.

1 pic: I like the first pic because it is like b&W on the left vs colour on the right. Beside the different in colour of the umbrella, also notice the colour of the dressing.

2pic: good catch. Sweet girl too.
