I miss Europe's summer a lot, so I thought of simulating the feel at Chinese Garden.
Thanks a lot to Joo and Cam! ^_^

1) PS over done already - plastic look, yet so much for her complexion, you forgetten the eye bags.
2) Very harsh shadows in some shots - consider using a reflector or flash to fill-in
3) Cropping is weird - "chopping effect" - avoid cropping at/near joint areas
4) Messy hair here and there, especially the fringe - hair spray should do the trick
5) Pictures are too big - Resize smaller? Ever thought of doing a collage?

What i like : the colors first. Green and white. Pink and green are strong contrasts that help us to isolate the model.
Your model knows how to pose ( Picture Number 1 for instance ), and understands that we have to bend sometimes to be sexy ( not all the time of course :) ) and that a "chopstick" effect is not appealing.

Problem however : as underlined, the light. Did you have a diffuser and reflector? Almost impossible to get decent shots without these before 5 pm. Or wait for some diffusing help from mother nature ( clouds, or get the pictures late afternoon )

Regards

Hey leejay, you have to hold back from overprocessing the images. And like the others has mentioned, use reflectors more to fill in the lights.

I like the posing and composition on some of the images.

before the usual "nice model" comments come out.
I volunteer to be the reflector a.k.a lighting boy next time round. :bsmilie:

I would have thought u have DI the bakground and the complexion.. it not natural for her.. unless u are in fasion editoral style then, that is another story ..

It doesnt bring the ambient out as what u have mention. Expression form her look pretty much the same on all the picture .. .. No offence to her and the photographer ..
Highlights and shadow not balance out .

DUDE! Whoa...pls pls ease on the DI man.

You completely ruin her face with the processing. IF you do not know how to den dont try.

It is overdone, too fake.

Please work on ur lighting and not just snap away. Too much shadows on ur models face. No sense of where the light is coming from.

Forget about the composition, forget about the model. First of all, figure out how are you going to light your subject before thinking about framing and other stuff.

try not to shoot in midday. Worst angle of light unless u know how to go around it.

=]

why not, go all the way & make it look like a painting instead?:)
(something like japanese anime)

I'm nver good at all this but I quite agree, and with some others too. Many shots seem very 'not right'

From my POV, a noob in such portrait, I thought #1 was weird the moment I saw it, like alot of lack of contrast in the face, as though to reduce the shadows.

#10 is the worse, obvious sharpening I guess? Halo-ing around the head..hmm

Just my 2cts. Not sure what others might think.

Thanks bros, ^_^ LOL, the comments are kindly noted.

I just got my Photoshop CS 2 and playing with it!

hard effort sia, friend, looks good with the shot and model, she is cute and sweet look.

i think the only thing draw back is the 'high key' in your photo. anyway it is good work and hard effort.

Thanks again, Kimura (Papaya?? :bsmilie: )! :)

After analyzing the comments: main prob - lighting, second prob - over DI.
 Thanks for the precious guidances, guys~

riekieto: Yup, I'm going to do a 'Ranma 1/2' collection in May. I will certainly invite you, bro. :)

razor: Yup, thanks man! ^^ LOL...

Hi Bro, nice model, and cute poses you managed to capture. My main pet peeve with portraits is overblown highlights. Not that overblown highlights are always a bad thing, but they need to be handled with care.

I won't comment on the post-processing, but the harsh sun wasn't on your side. This is why I refuse to join morning photoshoots (9am-12pm) out in the open, just too much pain in the a** to deal with extreme contrast.

sorry for the noob comment.. she is beautiful but the PS work look over done... she look abit fake to me...

sorry if i did say anything wrong...

:) Yup, a real 'sunny' Sunday it was. Thanks bro~ ^^

oscar: It is true that the PS is overdone. :) I'm going to take extra care in the DI next time. All the best in your exams. Aim for distinction, never aim for a pass. ^^

mm... think her make-up also a bit too much. I can see the bright shade on her nose which was meant to make her nose look "taller". Probably this kind of make up is not suitable for close portrait ? Just my opinion.

Pretty model
