Hi Kreepymoon,

Compare with other youtube video yours is considered to be very good.

May I know what is the setting of the file you upload to youtube?

Hi Anakin,

The compression i use for the video is h.264 codec. The quality is quite good compared to mpeg4. The file size after compression is only about 60 plus mb.

I am editing from PC and the software I used is Vegas 7.

I search all the render setting but unable to find H.264 codec, the nearest is Microsoft H.263 codec.

The one that I have that have this Codec is the Quicktime Pro but I alway had the problem of the video being squeeze after rendering to the H.264 mov file.

May I know which software you use for the rendering and do you reduce your video size or remain as in 720 X 576?

pretty neat. what's the story behind, and what background music is it?

Sharp images. Couple of questions though: why did you decide to go SD? and did you use P2 cards? What was your workflow like? Any special considerations with regards to your scene file settings? Also, any info on lighting equipment? Most of the shots look pretty run and gun, but a few looked like they benefited from some extra lighting - namely the white bits. I'm assuming you went with the stock lens and didn't use an adaptor too right?

Those are some pretty nifty shots there. I liked the shot you took at the bar. It was a tad (deliberately?) shakey at instances but I'm guessing it was intended? Anyway, all in all a pretty good project though it would've been better if more plot/story was revealed. Keep up the good job mate.

Viewed the video mute (in sch library  )...

Quite interesting, looking forward to see the full video. :)

Hi Anakin,

QuicktimePro should be able to export H.264 with no problems. The export settings using quicktime pro for the video are as follows.

Compression: H.264
Quality: Best
Key frame rate: 24
Frame reordering: yes
Encoding mode: multi-pass
Dimensions: 320X240
Scale: Letterbox

On the movie settings during export, click "size" to set the frame size and make sure you tick "preserve aspect ratio".

Hi Malcolm,

This is an extremely low budget project. Also, there's no requirement to go HD as final output is in SD Dvd. I used minidv tapes for the shoot.

In terms of lighting, outdoor locations are all natural lighting. The "white scene" used a 600w Redhead to light the wall and an Arri 800w as key light. The original footage before colour correction had a streak of light on the wall created by the redhead. The levels are pushed up during post and lost the intended look of the wall.

In terms of scene file settings, for the brightly lit scenes, detail -2, detail coring -2 or -1, master pedestal at abt -3 or 4, cinegamma, cinelike matrix.
For the dimly lit scenes, everything else is the same except for master pedestal dialed to abt -2.

There's no adaptor used, just the stock lense. :)

It's a tragic love story, the girl killed her boyfriend. I suppose the story is still in the making. Haha. I'm not the director nor the script writer. Will keep you updated once i know it myself. :)

Just wondering, do you ,by default, get more latitude shooting on SD with the HVX than if you used a standard SD cam like the Dvx? Or is it because of the gamma and master pedestal settings?

I have no chance yet to make a side-by-side comparison with the dvx. I don't think the hvx will have a greater latitude than the dvx. If i'm not wrong, cineD gamma should increase the latitude by about 1/3 or 1/4 stops more. Also, the master pedestal setting will not affect the latitude of the camera, it either crushes or lightens the blacks or shadows. My 2cents worth. :)

Nice footages.
The quality even on youtube is pretty decent, i bet it'll b pretty awesome on dvd
Althought I never really like the romantic-sort of plot.
Your lights certainly did make a difference
indoor shots with normal lights = bad.

Redlights are hot.. did you rent em or got it off school?
Whats sort of gels did you use. (I'm acutally trying to get my hands on afew blue/half-blue ones)

regards
dave

Hi Dave,

The red lighting is achieved using a red or "salmon" coloured gel borrowed from school. It is used with a 600w red head. Hope this helps. :)

Wilson

I need gels.... anyone know where I can get em?

Cine Equipment Pte Ltd

Should be about $15 a sheet minus gst.

More cost effective to buy a roll if you can get more members to share.
