Reno77 bought hard to find minolta 50mm f2.8 macro and me a minolta 135mm f2.8 plus various m42 lens on ebay, they are of excellent condition. There is a risk involved, but as long as you don't pay too high a price for a purchase, you won't lose that much in a worst case scenario.

If got good rating on the seller and got other bidding on it, I don't think it is a problem if you join. Don't buy from those with Germany, Chinese text etc... as they might be con man. I deal with someone in HK before, smooth transaction and also, under the table, some more deal, haha! The envelop which he send, also got some nice stamps.

A swahkoo question....not having any experience purchasing on Ebay....do you need to have paypal account to pay?

Yes.. and no, but with paypal, you can buy items from almost all sellers in ebay. It's free to setup the paypal account.

Actually ebay is the way to get cheap lens.. and as on the risk, always look at the seller's rating.. it's transparent.. and some even provide warranty

I have been buying car spare parts from ebay since before they started the buyer/seller rating system, and dare say I have never been short-changed before. Now with the rating system, I have bought stuff such as cameras and lenses from sellers with typically good ratings and have been very pleased with them. With ebay charging for posting WTS based on starting/reserve price, many sellers are now posting very low starting prices with no reserve, so got some really good deals for buyers.

OT a bit here.. I realize that nowadays, it's so easy to purchase item from internet.. just provide VISA card number + expiring date..
Imagine you go to a restaurant and pay your bill with VISA.. the waitress took your VISA card for payment and record down your name, VISA number + all info on the card..

Later on, start purchasing items from internet.. especially SW from internet..

is this a real concern here or actually it's not that easy

Depend on the seller which option he want. Some DON'T even sell to Singapore due to shipping problem. I encounter some don't want paypal as a lot of cases on it. Some go for moenybookers, bank cheque etc... Btw, if you win the bid, then you discuss with the seller on $ problem.
