5d mark 2 always blur back ground

hi there

why my 5d mark 2 is always blurring the back ground when i m taking some portrait shot. sometimes i also want to get a clear background or just get a full clear pic

by the way, i m using 50mm 1.2l

thx

I often advocate self learning and discovery, and in a way knowledge probably becomes more ingrained. The helpful members have given their inputs on aperture affecting depth of field. Why not try to shoot the same subject with different apertures and see how it can affect your outcomes.

Happy shooting

Ryan

i think there's nothing wrong if a newbie can afford 5D2 + 50L and use it as his/her starting camera.:nono: at least no need to upgrade once he/she becomes more familiar with photography...

if only i can afford, i would have used 1Ds3 + 27-70L when i was starting photography...:bigeyes:

wow i agree with you

I wish I had that lens... anyway, do take note that going to f/8 or f/11 might decrease your shutter speed so low that you get the other kind of blur - handshake blur. There's no stabilizer so steady yourself before taking the shot.
:)

so i went my iso up till 500 even under a shade outdoor (shuttler speed at 1/200-500), which i feel - What the.........

dun understimate 5DMKII.

u dun need to go what the.... until you have learnt your photography basics. photos are no longer the same as what you get on point & shoot cameras (DSLR vs point & shoot, crop DSLR vs FF DSLR).

btw, there is no ISO 500 on 5DMKII.

u should compare ISO 6400 on your 5DMKII with not 7D but probably 600D then with a point & shoot camera (probably will get u max at ISO 3200).

I confirm you would not say what the but WOW! at the superb noise control.

yeah i wish i started with nice equipment too. lol. saves you money in the long run.
I just recently recommended a 60D and 30mm 1.4 combo (less expensive than yours but still is a very nice setup) to a newbie friend. She had a nice budget so why not get a nice starting kit. ACtually, i told her to get the 600d, but she wanted something more "pro".

Of course she came back from a euro trip with tons of out of focus shots, but I'm sure she'll learn. :)

Back to topic, do you have lenses other than the 50L?
Also get a 24-105 F4L IS and you are good to go.
50L for portraits, artsy shots and night/indoor and the
24-105L for everything else , The IS helps when you want to shoot at high F numbers.

This thread quite entertaining.:bsmilie:

I'm a newbie too but I still recommend TS to read up and practice more. I was amazed by DOF when I first figured out how to shoot with AV on my old Canon S5 IS. Bottomline: It's the person behind the camera and lens that matters most :)

Haha don't throw your 1D MKIV away. You can throw to me instead. I'm more than happy to help ya waste it.
Geez a 1D MKIV with 85mm F1.2L as a starter kit really power to the max.

A lot of sarcasm when people new to photography bought a pro level DSLR. Maybe because average consumer power now only can afford a beginner/semi pro body, that's why when beginner got a pro body, we think the camera will be in better hand if we use it instead of her? Wonder what those big shot award winning professional photographer think of us when they look at us (not beginner level, but still far from their level). Best camera in the world is the one at your hand now?

We shouldnt speak as if we werent there b4... We were noobs too. Rememba.... :)

here is for equipments discussion, not discussion about the user,
want to crack some jokes on people lacking of knowledge is NO! NO!

all OT post deleted,
stick to the topic, either help the TS or stay away.

Interesting points all around. I'm a newbie, having picked up photography as a way of tracking the growth of my baby son. Even now, I have no clue as to what most of you guys are talking about. Is it a lack of passion, perhaps. A lack of trying, maybe. I've got the books on the theory and all, but it just takes time, and sometimes there is a distinct lack of it.

I wanted to have the best gear I could afford and be done with whatever upgrading process that may come about. I knew I only wanted to shoot my son and family, and my watches (another expensive habit), so I got a 5d mkii, 35L, 24-105L and a 100L macro, which essentially covered what i needed. It's a lot of money, but hey, I work hard and I can afford it. My shots may be lousy, esp
now, but who know, in time I may improve. In my line, I always tell my younger colleagues, the only difference between you and me
is the experience and exposure.

I can relate to TS's situation and questions. I have been very blessed to have wonderful friends who spend loads of their time
explaining photography basics to me. We all need to start somewhere.

Good encouragement and attitude. We all will learn and improve :)

Yes there is ISO 500 on 5DMkII if you set your ISO speed increments to 1/3 stop instead of 1.

dun understimate 5DMKII.
