Hi all, been some time (or is it a long time?) since the last time I posted anything here.
I was planning to get the 5D, but I was quite shocked to see the news about Sony -Minolta.
So the question that I want to ask, is it worth buying the 5D at this time? Or should I just change my whole gears, since I only have few lenses?
Well, what do you think, I feel very confused now.

What worries you? Dynax 5D is very nice camera and it is by far the cheapest camera that offer lots of features.

I am using 7D, not worry about Sony issue... well, basically what it means is that there will be more DSLR that uses Minolta lenses and more lenses to be purchase, if you want it..

Hmm... how if one day Sony decides to take over it and there's no more supply for Minolta?
Or how about the service centre?

Well, in my opinion, Sony products isn't the best in the market, and yet it is expensive. I'm just afraid that in the future the price will increase and the quality will decrease. How about that?

Well, I'm using a 5D now.

I must say that features alone, it is a godsend. I can't really ask for more in a camera, AS on sensor is perhaps the best concept feature which Minolta ever came up with. Focusing motors on the body also allows for lighter weight on lenses and pre-flash TTL give me spot on colours and exposures.

Currently only own it with a 18-70 kit lens and a 3600HSD flash. Whilst I have the same fears with u on pricing & quality of future Sony DSLRs, I'm happily shooting now. As for my future upgrade path, it depends very much on what Sony will do. Whether I switch back to Canon, Nikon or Fujifilm in the distant future is hard to say.

But right now, I'm enjoying my Dynax5D. Using it for my travels (a light bugger, godsend as well for travels) as well as doing events. :)

I'm been using Dynax 5D for 4 months. The image are great even at night. Ther are many third party lens you can use. Don't forget the in built anti shake.

Well, service centre generally stays.. just changing the name from KMSC to Sony SC. Even if it has changed, most probably the people who are servicing your camera before and later on still the same.

Quality wise, I am not really worry about.. true that Sony things not the best in the market, but I guess with any electronic, specially DSLR, I think the camera itself will become absolete before it breakdown. Say Canon 10D, will people think about buying it new when there is a 30D out in the market? People want NEWER DSLR... that's the fact.

If you have some of Minolta finest lenses, I don't think I will worry about the Body from SONY. To be honest, for a start, Sony DSLR will still build by the same people who build Minolta DSLR with the same Factory, hence I don't see any problem there.

I will be more worried about newer Lenses by Sony...

Be more optimistic, but only time can tell.

Thanks for all the replies, I really appreciate it.
After almost a year, I didn't log in, honestly, I was quite shocked to see the news abt Sony and KM. It's also hard for me to change the gears at this point of time, because I already have the flash (5600HSD) and also few lenses. I mean, if I want to jump to Nikon, I need to start from scratch again.

I have no doubt about the quality since I've been using minolta for more than 2 years now.
I'm just afraid that, in near future there might be some changes that we might need to spend $$$; may be there are some small changes in the body or lens that we need to send it for upgrade. Remember when the DSLR just launched, many third parties lenses need to be sent back for upgrading (or something like that).
Btw, where is the Service centre now?

was wondering, are they still selling the 5D now?:dunno:

Went pass harvey norman and best the other day but dont see them displaying it anymore..

Yupe, they do. I just went to Best Denki @ Taka today to have a look at it and Nikon D50.
Nikon is slightly cheaper though. Btw, what is the retail price of KM5D?
