You mean there are 4 versions of the 50mm asph lux?
50 lux got 4 versions. V2 should be the e43 v3 is e46 pre asph. Latest lux is last version with asph.. however lux asph also has Lhsa version which is sold with mp3 lhsa e43. Heard its the same. But nv used b4. Not sure about v1. Basically theres no other versions of lux asph unless ur mentioning the different editions

Haha all depends on the type of lens that u like to shoot. Some people like sharp lenses . And will get fle version. Some people likes old lenses with old feel (pre asph) . Some people are rich , likes lenses with certain feel and has great optics ( double aspherical) . Whereas first asph e46 35lux is somewhere in between these.. I cant comment much but I can only say 35 lux pre asph has a glow / or some kind of softness when u shoot at f1.4 or 2. It gets pretty sharp at f2.8 and above but not asph type of crazy sharp. I believe it is the glow more than the flare. It is one of the smallest 35lux if not wrong. Similar sized to 35cron 4.
Depending on which aperture the lens is optimised for, the first version ASPH 35mm also suffers from focus shift. This was addressed to a large extent with the second ASPH 35mm, aka FLE.
If you don't mind your subject in your photos being sharp at f1.4 and suddenly become out of focus when you change aperture to say f2.8, you may wish to consider the ASPH ver 1. On a film body, the focus shift is not so apparent as compared to a digital body.
Not really concerned abt focus shift as I will b using it on my NEX 7... Focus Peaking with Magnification helps alot... More concerned wif the quality of the photo... Will Summilux or Summicron really be performing better than my Voigtlander Ultron 35mm f/1.7? Just wondering if I should really get it... Tks...
just to add.. if its also better than CV 35mm F1.2 II?![]()

I've not personally used the CV 35/1.7 or the CV 35/1.2 II; so I can't comment on the 2 CVs. But I came very close to buying the CV 35/1.4. I bought the ZM 35/2 instead as I've seen examples of distortion in the CV 35/1.4.
Bit of an OT: The 35FLE certainly beats the ZM in sharpness at f2 and in the available light department. From f4 onwards, the difference is barely distinguishable. I also like the colours of the FLE more than the ZM. I also detect a tinge more CA on the ZM. I also like the boke better on the FLE.
Having said that, the ZM is a very capable lens (for its price) in terms of sharpness and it virtually has no distortion.
Sadly however, just like in high fidelity equipment, the difference in quality does not commensurate in tandem with the additional investment you make.
So the question really is: Better quality but at what price.
think you've sum it up. Want better sharpness wide open ,better bokeh & color - FLE. :bsmilie: Thoth. save up~ BBB.

The old 35mm summicrons are as good as, or worse than, the Zeiss 35mm/f2 and cost a lot more. The only thing I'd worry is the possible smearing at the corners on the NEX7 sensor. On film, it is a bargain.
Haf anyone tested the Pre ASPH Cron 35mm on the NEX 7 and finding any issues?
The "glow" exhibited by the 35 lux pre asph at wide apertures is just veiling flare. But calling it the Leica "glow" sounds much cooler
The "glow" does indeed make for nice portraits! Another lens that has a lot of glow from f/1.4 to f/2 is the Nikkor-S 5cm f/1.4 available in LTM and S-mount.
