Anyone has problem with your 505si? Mine has serve me well since 1999...
Until now...

How do you tell if the camera is having shutter problem? Haven't got time to send it to service center yet.. so want ask you guys for option.

Some pictures i taken recently has this black patch (straight, rectangular from one end to the other). It looks like the film didn't get the exposure it needed. So 3/4 of the print is black. I'm sure its not the flash. Cuz i don't use it when outdoor. It happen to both my neg and slide.

thanks in advance

Hiee....

Let me understand the problem you are having.....is it a band of black on the image horizontally?.......if yes......this could be a problem with your shutter.....movement....(the vertical traverse shutters opens with a slit horizontally.....unlike the horizontal cloth curtain types in older SLRS.....which when faulty gives you bad vertical band exposure line .

How about sending it for a check at Minolta.....

(example of horizontal traverse.....movement....vertical slit problem)

Your cam is Vertical traversed.....then the black bar is horizontal....

rgds,

Sulhan,

get yr 505si to get it fixed. Happened to my 505si too. camera also bought in 1999. It is a shutter problem. Sometimes it appears and sometimes it doesn't ... but the problem is there. Hit me on a few shots in japan a year. Lucky only a few shots. So pls get it fixed or you may regret it!

My 505 is ok now.

Cheers

Can I have a look at the picture?? Or if you wanna send the camera to service center, show them the pictures too....It'll help them better.....

Think woosy is the one having problem with his/her 505!

thanks guys! yes its a black horizontal band and for some weird reason it hits only (if not mostly) at my vertical shots (i don't have the pictures with me). Will bring it down to the service center soon.

Another question... once repaired does it mean its cured? Or will spring another surprise again? It ruin few favourite shots already... although i still consider myself lucky that i didn't hit all my shots!

cheers!

Tilting the camera may cause some connection to go loose. Anyway a check up at the service centre will solve the problem I think.

I did not notice any 'trend' as to when the said problem will occur. It appears quite random to me. But it will get worse and worse if you do not fix it. Actually it has to do with light somehow getting into the film chamber, hence the black strip below. Pls bring the spoiled foto for the technician to see. They will know immediately what the problem is.

cheers

Light leak usually register as orange colour......ermm....for your info...shutter replacement of your model usually is S$150+ 5%gst estimate.... :o

Actually, other than shooting a lot and leaving camera too long in a dry cabinet with very low humidity, what are the other risk factors for getting shutter problems earlier than expected? :dunno:

tat's quite alot... how long will it last me? should i take the chance and save to buy a new camera? ;) i don't like the thought that i'll occur again anytime and ruin my shots...

i've been using the camera quite often at least for the past 1 year or at least for the past 6 months.. so how long is long for it to occur when left untouched in a dry box? certainly 4-5 years is not old for a camera right?

cheers

I'll repair it and get another brand new main camera body.......the old camera will acts as a backup camera.......

camera problem is a very subjective issue.....It's hard to tell you how this thing happen.....There is a lot of factor connect to it.....

Some cameras which is left inside drybox for many years do not have this problem........

I think its worth the repair. After all, you'll have to pay a lot more if you want to get a new camera. Its also better to repair ASAP, since otherwise it'll make shooting so unpredictable. The shutter is a very important component of any camera body.

I thought the best precaution against future premature shutter breakdown is to make sure you don't leave camera inside dry box for too long (months) without taking it out. After all, the lubrication inside could dry out, meaning the motor inside it could be affected too. Also, don't make the humidity level inside dry box too low (see instruction manual of your dry box for details).

Thank you! Certaintly will get it repair! Meanwhile i'll think about what body to buy next... :)

cheers!

U could go for a 2nd hand body.... there are some mint condition Dynax 5s floating around... the price should not be too high.... so would probably fit your budget...

Actually the price of the minty Dynax 5s are really quite cheap. Am considering to get another Dynax 5 as a backup lor!

If you want to know the 2nd hand price of Dynax 5, can PM me. I'd received some offer a while back when I was looking for one lor! :D

yeah the Dynax 5...i've been thinking about it for awhile since it's launch! How much, roughly is a 2nd one? Won't buy so soon, broke from vacation and all this developing and now to fix the shutter... no $$
And I like D7 very much too.. maybe i should try my luck at 4D this wk ;)
