Hi There!

I'm new here and it's really exciting to see a videography forum for locals. The participation and response from users here are amazing.

Hope we'll learn from one another, and share possible benefits :)

Anyways, here are some projects i've done. Constructive comments are welcome.

Hi, what are these shortfilm project for? which school?

I've just finished watching Homecoming, I felt that you could improve your story, I feel this sort of narrative films are overdone by film-students and I don't personally like it. But as much as I hate local-emotional-sentimental-typical-singaporean films, your framing and editing were pretty neat and sweet making the film really really easy to watch, I enjoyed the twist in the end.
You could have taken us thru the boy's day in camp rather than just making us following him home. - Gets pretty draggy. :)

2 Thumbs up for the camera work
2 Thumbs up for the editing/audio
1 Thumbs up for the narration (I dont like it very very much, but its good)

I'm gonna watch the rest later... but "But with you" looks really familar.
Were you guys one of the finalist for Canon DV Fest 06?

Cheers
David

Hi Hobbes!

Thanks for your encouraging comments. :) I was the DP n producer.

I am from Singapore Poly, Dip. in Media&Comm. Graduating soon!!

Homecoming: was screened on ArtsCentral Livewire 05 or 06.
Parting Gift: Finalist for Canon DV Fest 05.
Be With You: Audience Choice Award for Canon DV Fest 06.
Tuesday: submitted for Canon DV Fest 06, didn't make it to finals.

I do agree with you about the story. Story is always the "King", which i feel is lacking in many student and amteur indie projects.

Will definitely get a good story out for my nxt proj. Cheers!!

love the camera work in tues.
i think u have the talent of DOP.
I think among all, i love tues.
It tell a lot about our daily lifestyle.
Great jobs.

Just a question in my mind, how come everybody is going toward
this style of editing (like Eric Koo Be with Me ) with the empty sound effect
and dialogue. Very singapore Shortfilm. Is it due to the lecturer and what you
learn in school. Just interested to find out, no offence. Cheers

Wow, i read in another thread that you're a HVX user. Neato! The quality is definitely reflected in your films. Would you mind a collaboration anytime soon? I'm a DVX user and am envious as hell of the HVX. Do PM me if you wouldn't mind collaborating on a video - I'm doing a school video in a couple of weeks as a trailer for a play (i'm studying in ACSI). Alternatively you could email me at mal_onc_inc AT hotmail.com

Hi Samvision,

Thanks for your generous comments.

Regarding the style of the film, the director whom i worked with has a flair for dialogueless films, he prefers using voiceovers or plainly visuals to tell the story. I have a slight taste for it too.

Eric Khoo's films definitely had an impact to the way we tell our story. However, it's an experimental stage for us as amateurs to try out different styles of story telling. Hopefully, a unique style can be developed when we have more experience.

Another thing is, good dialogues aren't easy to write. With lesser dialogues, comes lesser mistakes. Of course, this is just my opinion.

Re: Be with you. Ahhh!!! I knew I heard it somewhere before. Congrats on your win, our entry was under secondary school, Blinded.

Anyways my network of friends like MALCOLM and BLT are always making shortfilms, trailers and anything similar.

We are plotting to have a pretty big production in June and end of year..

Maybe we should meet up over coffee soon.

Oh my God.

So you are the folks we compete with every year at Canon Film Fest. Hah. We got screened for Livewire in '05 too by the way - As part of our Project Pilot Finalist position that year. Wow you guys certain get around much hehe. *respect respect*

Wasn't Be With You that uber-kick-ass winner this year that took home top prize for everything and a bunch of XL2s and $15,000?

For the record I thought Parting Gift should've won in '05

first off, thanks kreepymoon for sharing our videos here!

im new here and im kinda like... the director cum producer of the above short films... well halfway for homecoming and stuff like that. i thought we could like rocket our ways to fame. but it's really nice to receive nice comments and such. i appreciate it!

sorry about youtube's version of "tuesday", the sound like gabra a bit when compressing into <100mb. and very regrettably, it's kinda muffled too.

shots wise, my favourite would be from "be with you". kreepymoon did a great job in taking care of the composition, framing and lightings. love the dirty shots too.

cheers,
hon wai

ps: kreepymoon will reply questions and comments about cinematography. im only here to crash the party. haha!

Hi, I have finished watching the "Parting Gift".

I like the part where Phyllis parent was talking to each other. It is a very nice way to give a understand of Marc and his condition.

Thank you for sharing your work. I am looking forward to view you production.

Another suggestion that you may want to consider, you can also post ur video in some of the site that share their advertisement revenue with you. The one that I had posted in is revver at http://www.revver.com

i know this sounds personal, but did you actually earned money from posting videos there?

Hi Malcolm, BLT & Hobbes,

I knew you guys are one of the groups who won a big prize for 06's Canon DvFest. I am amazed by the quality of work you guys could produce considering your age. Good job guys! Keep it going, you guys have great potential. And also, congrats for your win!!

By the way, my team didn't walk away with the XL nor the cash cheque. Heh. We won a consumer dvd cam, which we still are unable to sell. :(

As for the collaboration, i might be working full-time soon when i graduate from poly and might not be able to commit. Thank you both of you for your interest in working with me. Maybe we can collaborate on s a short together next time, when i have available time.

Good luck guys, and keep the cameras rolling!! Cheers ;)

According to the site they will paid you when the amount reaches US$20. My video post there do not have much hit count and the last month hit amount is less than $5. So need to see whether the earning is good. I read from Videomaker magazine in the February 2007 issues http://www.videomaker.com/article/13101/ that the creator of a Diet Coke and Mentos video pocketed $35,000, which was their share of the ad revenue paid to them by streaming host Revver.com.

So it is worth a try.

Sell me the cam... does it run on minidv? I need a bloody deck =\

yea, ive seen the vid personally. it's ultra cool. but they surely have fine prints written all over the shop if they were really to pay you, maybe even taking the copyright of the clip and whatnot.

ah.

just being skeptical here. all the best with earning some fast cash there man!

cheers!
