Hi guys,

I'm looking into buying a 35mm summilux but got sooo confused with the versions in the market!

May i know the difference between a "35mm f/1.4 summilux-m" and "35mm f/1.4 summilux"? Both are pre-asph and for the summilux-m it's made in germany, s/n 343xxxx. What does the extra "m" stands for. And how much are they worth, used.

I would imagine some were made in Canada.

There are 2 Pre-ASPH versions, and 2 ASPH versions.

This website should be helpful: http://www.antiquecameras.net/

M means M mount.

35mm Lux pre-asph is actually an F2.8 lens + 2 very glowy stops (F2 and F1.4).

If you do not like the glow at F1.4 and F2, you are better off with a 35 cron pre-asph (6, 7 or 8 elements). The 35 cron at F2 is better than the 35 Lux at F2.

Nowadays, I think best is 35mm Zeiss Biogon F2.8 !!! (sorry digress)

Actually i don't mind the glow, gives the lens character haha! Anyways there is a 35 cron pre-asph V3 going for SGD1.4k. Is it worth the buck? I might just get that instead of Lux.

iirc theres 5 35mm 1.4..

2 x pre-asph ones (V1 &2), heard v2 has some focus issues with made in canada when used on m9 (but really depends on when it was produced, some might not have this issue.. made in germany ones are rarer and cost abit more).

then comes aspherical 35mm 1.4 which is very expensive and hard to find..
then the ASPH 35mm 1.4 V1 (previous asph version)
and the current ASPH 35mm 1.4 V II with floating element which is expensive :s

i am currently using the v2 pre-asph. if you want less modern look, this is it. if you want more modernised look and can afford it, go for asph versions.. though that will break your bank.. thats if you can find one also.

Yes v3 is 6 elements. It is a good deal since 7 and 8 element is price difference by about 1k, but performance difference not very big.

I only got 6 elements. Cannot afford to buy 7 or 8 elements.

If your funds are limited, other great options are 35mm Zeiss Biogon F2 and 35 CV F1.4

Yes, agree with you on the 35mm Zeiss Biogon F2.8
It's one sharp lens for 1/3 of price of the Leica.
