Hi all bros/sis, I have been wanting to try out half format cameras and I have a newbie question to ask, as this is very new to me. Is there a difference between developing a 35mm roll of film, that has been used with a half format camera, as compared to the typical processing of a 35mm roll of film? Thank you very much. = )

No difference in developing.

Hi ndroo, thanks a lot for the info. I know this is gonna sound silly, pls do bear with me. So if I were to bring the 35mm film (used with half format camera) to a film processing shop, all they have to do is to develop this particular roll of film just like how they would develop any other typical 35mm roll of film? Sorry just wanna be sure about it. Thanks = )

film is still the same 35mm film, so processing in the same way, like what ndroo said.

but the lab may not able to PRINT or SCAN the processed film for you, as it need special half frame carriage to mask out outside the frame area, not all labs has it, as this is not very popular.

hi catchlights, thanks for the information. So the lab might not be able to do contact prints and also, scan the film into a CD? Any idea where I might be able to find a shop which would be able to process this? I have been looking around but I still cannot find any info on that. Thanks a lot again. = )

very simple, locate all the phone contacts from the link bellow, call each one and ask:

"do you process and scan 35mm half frame format?"

if they replied: "har? what is half frame format?" just thank them and call the next one.

if they answered "Yes", than you can ask some more other questions till you happy before send your film there.

hope this help.

LOL! Brilliant stuff catchlights! Thanks for the straightforward and effective advice, I actually did not think about that. Thanks for the link to the contacts too. Really appreciate it. Thanks again. = )

U r most welcome. Catchlights has answered your question. I've tried letting the lab scan a roll of half frame and it turned out with one of the frame being smaller than the other. Hahaha. So now I DIY my scanning lo.

Hi ndroo, yeah I guess cos it is not popular anymore, so it is hard to find a lab that specialises or have a good knowledge to go about doing it. I did not have a hard time trying to find a shop that processes and develop B+W films but this half format thing is a whole different story altogether. Haha saw photos taken with half format cameras and ever since, I have been hooked. Problem now is to find a lab, probably will try and see if fotohub can do it or not. Thanks a lot again bro ndroo for the advice and info. = )

To TS, are you using the Golden Half camera?

You just have to scan the whole frame and crop it after scanning. ;)
