Hey fellow KM bros,

I dunno if this is the correct sub-forum to ask, but since its regarding the beercan, I figure I ask here as I am more familiar with the kind folks here also.

Recently bidded (and lost a bid) for the beercan on ebay at the last minute. However i just received a email from the seller offering me a 2nd chance to buy the lens as the first buyer backed out. A bit apprehensive that it might be a scam as i am not experienced in dealing online.

So would appreciate it if any bros can give me advice on whether to go ahead with the 2nd-chance offer. The item is http://cgi.ebay.com.sg/ws/eBayISAPI...MEWA:IT&viewitem=&item=330091783159&rd=1&rd=1

The email delivered to me is as follow:
"Dear buyer,

I own the item that you recently tried to buy by bidding trough the eBay
sistem ,Item number:330091783159. If you are still interested in buying my
item please contact me because the higher bidder backed out from personal
reasons.I'm offering it to you at the last bid price you placed for the last
time on my auction .Please answer me if you are interested in buying it,
waiting for your kind reply.
Thank you!"

Thanx for your kind help! :)

Please read my post. May just save your money. ;)

This is the original thread where the above post is found.

Trading in ebay is relatively safe, with exceptions of hijacked accounts. It becomes uncontrollably dangerous when you take the deal off ebay. To be sure, only pay via paypal. WU and alternatives are easy ways to send money into others' account. Period.

you can give it a try and here's why

1.) the backout bidder has a rating of 4 from various high rating sellers so it is unlikely to be a scammer
2.) the seller is a power seller with high ratings, though with 98% positive (that's 1 in 50 chance that he will screw up something
3.) that's a lot cheaper than the beercan i snapped up from ebay 4 months ago so i think you got a good deal

Things you may want to check it out.
1.) I see a lens hood in the pic but what about the caps?
2.) For security reasons use only paypal as your payment mode and not e-gold (or whatever they call it now) services even if the seller/buyer insists
3.) Seller only accept bidpay but i'm not familiar with it so can't comment on the security of bidpay
4.) Check his postage charges before agreeing in case he overcharges you. It should be around 10 USD for mailing to USA (with tracking) or about 30 USD for mailing to here directly.
5.) Make sure he is willing to give your beercan extra padding and cushion in packing too.

Agree with you. If you do proceed to purchase, pay with your credit card via Paypal. This allows you multiple way of stopping the payment if things turn sour. If possible, choose trackable shipment. This allows you do lodge a dispute as soon as possible and no excuse for the seller to say it's on the way.

If you do dispute, PayPal will take some time to clear, but you will get your money back if you follow their process correctly.

No Money order or cashier cheque payment in this case. If the seller insists forget about the whole thing.

Check out his/her negative/neutral ratings.....

Just remembered. Make sure you receive the 2ndchanceoffer in your ebay inbox. If not, then it's a scam.

Cheers! ;)

like what Ecclesiasm said... beware of scammers and a google on bidpay scam seems to suggest that bidpay is not such a safe way to deal. Insist on paypal and you should be safe.

hey mastermind.. thanx for the advice! Appreciate the effort for your analysis. The problem is i received the email in my email account, and not in "my ebay" inbox. I dont doubt the seller, afterall he has a high rating and myself has a rating of "0" ....:bsmilie: . But i doubt the email originated from the seller leh... :dunno:

ecclesiasm: Thanx for the reminder!

hey tankm.. hope you have been fine =) Hmmz.. seller insist on bidpay in his advertisement. I will replied to the email.. will see the reply and follow on from there.

Thanx for the link for the negative/neutral ratings... if not i wouldn't know how to find these negative/neutral ratings comments from ebay.

pls also note that there have been instances of powerseller accounts tio hacked by people......but just stick to what fellow forum brothers have mentioned and u shd be fine :D

hope this is not too late. be very careful about clicking on the URL attached in the email. to be doubly sure that it is a genuine second chance offer and not a hack by someone to install a worm on your PC, log in directly to your eBay account and go to your messages. If its a genuine email from the seller, you'll find the email there. i've received a few fakes before and have forwarded it to the eBay fraud unit, but i doubt if they can do much to prevent these things....

I personally did accept a 2nd chance offer for a 75-300mm (all metal model). All went well - from a big time seller too.
