hmm...how come shot on tripod, yet the perspective seems so different?
i had wanted to see the diff in distortion, but cant really tell from that due to diff in perspective...

not sure if everyone remembers, but one lens' 18mm may not be another's 18mm. even if they are the same the distance you focus @ will alter the focal length slightly as well. i didn't adjust this for this test so the two pictures seem different.

i have however reshot this test but give me time to crop the stuff. :D

ohhh ic.... true.
so at close distance, the 18-55 appear much less wider

Are't you supposed to fit the entire chart into the frame? You already disadvantaged the 18-70 by shooting it smaller, no?

May I know where to get such chart for testing lenses? TIA:)

i got it long ago. not sure where already. can try google for resolution chart. then start browsing. =)

er.. that is the closest the 18-70 can get. and it's only at 18mm that this happens. at 55mm both fill the frame. anyway i have reshot it to ensure that the chart in both images are about the same. wait for it. =)

Oh okie.. ;p Another way is to use 4 pieces of the chart and lay them side by side. Then you can shoot from further away.

by theory, the 18-70mm is suppose to be faster than the 18-55mm ED-II but the 18-70mm got slightly faster AF lock and faster SWM movement in low light condtions than the 18-55mm ED-II.
what puzzled me the most is how come the 18-70 have a slower shutter speed than the 18-55 at tele and wide ???
the 18-70 is only slightly sharpner than the 18-55 but then again sharpness is a rather subjective matter.

oh i understand already is due to the the recipocate rules.
