16GB card for D90?

I think it's not so much as NEED as because card prices have dropped so much, that it makes sense to buy a larger capacity card as they are rather affordable.

Not really :bsmilie:

Have a 4GB but sometimes i wish i just had a 1GB card so i'll be forced to be more 'tidy' (deleting really old shots) :p

The 30mb/s was design to compliment the D90.. Sandisk Press release

As to whether you need the throughput, is up to the user.. You can check the benchies here

I wonder if there's anything special in D90's SD card slot that will maximize the 30 MB/s speed or not... And I think the 30 MB/s will help more in writing video. A similar Extreme III CF card (which I believe runs on the older 20 MB/s speed) on the D300 performs similarly to the new Extreme III 30 MB/s on the D90, go figure.

I think I'll be visiting "extreme" weather conditions next year, so I guess I'm heading for the Extreme III version. Too bad SITEX doesn't appear to carry the 16 GB version... :bsmilie:

Do you guys really need 16GB card? Do you normally shoot in RAW? Just curious...

Try shooting videos.. It won't be very long before you realise 8Gb is barely enough. ;p I'm not even shooting 1280x720 half-HD with it. ;p

Thought I'll update this threat with my poison. :D Yup, got the 8 GB 30 MB/s card in the end. Unfortunately, my informal shooting timings were disappointing. It was marginally faster compared with my existing Lexar Platinum II 4 GB at continuous 4.5 fps shooting, and it takes around a second faster to display the 10 photos I took (I switched to MF on the body so that it doesn't need to slow down for AF). Copying from the card to my laptop took around a second faster too for "Xtremy" using the Lexar USB 2.0 SDHC reader. If it matters, "Xtremy" was tested as it-is out of the box while "Lexy" card had about 2.5 GB of free space only.

I guess the difference will only be more apparent when you're shooting a lot more photos continuously. What else is there to dislike about "Xtremy"? The use of those hard plastic kind of packaging inside the box is hard to open, and contrary to *my* belief no reader was bundled, unlike my Lexar purchase. :( In short, yeah, I got suckered into the whole Extreme brand quality. Now's hoping that the card will really live up to its name when I'm overseas for an extended period of time early next year... the reason why I decided to give it a shot was that my "Lexy" had died twice in my D90 (I suspect due to bad sectors) although it was working fine in my Ricoh GX100 for the past couple of months.

Yes, I've had Lexar cards dying on me also. Since then, it's only Sandisk or Transcend for me...

Can anyone tell me the best price for an EXTREME III 8GB and 16GB in Singapore?

8 GB Extreme III 30 MB/s version was going for S$99 during SITEX. I think by now most shops should have adjusted to around that price liao... or maybe give it a week or two bah.

The SITEX people say 16 GB no stock. I don't know if they meant there's no 16 GB version in Singapore yet or it was only no stock at SITEX.

Where can i get Sandisk Ultra II SDHCs?

Im hoping for shops in sls or elsewhere having SITEX's price on Sandisk Ultra II cards..8gb for $33?
