Sharpness
The Olympus 14-35mm ƒ/2 is a very sharp lens indeed. It is so sharp, in fact, that it is hard to decide on the optimum aperture / focal length combination for optimum sharpness. According to our test results, 18mm at ƒ/4 seems to yield about as perfect sharpness as can be obtained, but in reality, you'll be very hard-pressed to notice any differences for sharpness at any aperture below ƒ/11.

The lens is optimized for the wider end of its aperture spectrum, providing results for sharpness at ƒ/2 that consumer lenses would be envious of at ƒ/8

-_-'''

Well, the SHG lenses are over-engineered IMHO - and that accounts for their size, weight and price, and of course performance. Mortals would do very well with the HG lenses already! :bsmilie:

Saw one at MS yesterday about $3,250...yup big and heavy for a 28 to 70 mm range with 77mm filter size but constant F2 will be the deciding factor.

Anyone here has bought this "little monster" lens?

Used this lens before and the results were "too sharp" for my use... end up going back to the HG series... the super wide aperture is useful for me, but to add blur to images taken with this lens is really an insult to the lens... so in the end, decided to stick to my 12-60 instead. That is my most commonly used lens now, other than the 50-200.

But for those who are pursuing the "sharpest and best built lens out there", then I have to say the 14-35 will not disappoint... I just cannot use this lens on people, especially on beauty shots... too much DI work afterwards to remove tiny wrinkles and flaws on skin... too darn sharp!

This lens is not meant for mortals like me. Good god....that thing's a monster!

I won't mind adding this lens to my collection.. haha... but its out of my reach right now.. the 35-100mm will do for the moment..

When the 35-100mm came around, the Ministress of Home Affairs have yet had her hands on the bank account right? Well, you have to be really good to her to get permission someday... don't give up hope bro.
