I cannot compare because I haven't tried Canon's.
But I use Tamron 17-50mm, and you're right, the AF goes hunting in low light. Especially if the AF point is on a very dim area. My trick is to change the AF point to something else nearby that still has acceptable contrast.

I sweat a lot, and the humidity gets my hand sticky on the camera.
I hate the feeling, and also takes time for me to clean the camera often.
Any tips? Should I wear gloves or something?
