Please see photos taken by me using my friend's 40D.
I have weighed that by DIY my own menu now, i have saved more at this point in time. Therefore i have decided to buy a entry level gear to do the job.
Seriously, if i could outsource this job i would have.... but i have already...
Thanks for giving the few pointers.
Apologies for not qualifying myself properly from the start.
I'm not a good photographer and neither do i want to be one. I prefer to do what i do better, that's to become a restauranteur.
The problem with small restaurant like mine, everything...
I dunno what the model of the setup they use...
Dun know the name of the photographer. The previous guy looks a bit like Andy Lau, so i always call him "Liu De Hua", but now he left.... Change to another new guy, the new guy dun really know about food arrangement...
Correct me if i am wrong....
i think photo taking food for menu is a different ball game.... i have been there and done that.... but i am still a newbie.
A lot emphasis is on the food arrangement.
- i have used a lot of toothpick to support the food, tissues to beef up the food, all...
thanks for your service... i did consider getting freelance photographers, but sometimes, it's a impromptu kinda of thing.
and food arrangement require a lot of patience...
I did ask my friend to help me take before, spend a lot of time on the food arrangement. in the end, only took 4...
i have learn this from people at PGS...
- they output the footages live onto their Mac, so that they can have a close up look at the details.
- because sometimes taking some food, you cannot wait (esp. food with sauce)
- for eg. taking a salad, they output the footage to the LCD, arrange...
My current menu has a mixture of closeups and "whole-plate" photos with props in the background.
Thanks again for your recommendation. It has been helpful... i'm considering the 50mmf1.8 option...
Does this mean that getting the 450D with KIT I can do the job?? There's a promotion right now going at $1099 (Street price varies).
Saw some second-hand ones selling around $850. i think buying brand new ones better.
I have a friend who does freelance for PS and Indesign. So post-process is taken care of already.
As for the Macro lens, is there any cheaper ones around??
I have been to the PGS at AMK industrial park and i have seen their setup.
Definitely, $2K for their service is reasonable.
However, i am just a small restaurant operator and trying to keep cost as low as possible.
Thank you Leong23 for your recommendation.
1) Which model of the Entry DSLR do you recommend?? Is 450D good enough, or too good?
2) Can those kit lens do the job??
Thanks for all your concerns... but may i ask how many of you guys have actually taken photos for a menu?
- The reason of outputing the image to LCD while photo-taking is to help me for the food arrangement.
- my rstnt is a small setup, therefore i am trying to do everything myself. In fact...
Honestly, i dunno. The cheaper the better.
I'm looking at Canon 450D.
As for the lens, i know nuts. Friend mentioned using marco lens, but i think it's too ex. So if any cheap lens can do the job, i'll go for it.
