    Lens

You might want to consider the Sigma equivalent. I was looking for a new lens a few weeks back, and after doing my homework I felt that the tamron AF wouldn't meet my expectations, so I got the Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 for a few hundred $ more. But in terms of cost, the tamron is the cheapest...

Sigma 17-50mm F2.8 EX DC OS HSM

I bought this lens from SLRR two weeks back... $1039 for the lens itself. I haven't had much time to shoot with it, but I'm very pleased with its performance thus far. Image centre is pretty sharp even at f/2.8, and becomes even more so (along with an improvement in the frame edges) when stopped...

Help needed !! To confirm if my Lens VR is faulty (55-200mm)

VR does help to reduce the effects of handshake to a certain extent; however it cannot rescue a photograph if you make any drastic movements or if you are trembling too much while holding up the camera. Do also take note that a malfunctioning VR system may also result in blurry photos. An...

    Alternative Lens for D60

Which kit lens are you currently using? It would help greatly if you could tell us what your budget is and what you intend to take pictures of / what your photographs will be for. So far your criteria of "sharper than the kit lens, able to autofocus" is not really useful as quite a number of...

Help needed !! To confirm if my Lens VR is faulty (55-200mm)

When you half press the shutter to engage AF and VR, the picture in the viewfinder should remain in the same place and not move about due to unsteady hands. Of course, the results will depend on your camera holding technique and the shutter speed / focal length you are shooting at. At least...

    sharpness in Nikon 50mm 1.8G vs 85mm 1.8G

Use a tripod and shoot with mirror lock up for both lenses at the same settings. If images appear sharp after that, it should be because of your handhold technique / shooting at too low shutter speeds. Any pictures to show us what is wrong?

    Upgrading Advice

Ask yourself if you really need the better performance right now. Like you, I am still using a D5000 and I think that a D7000 is a good upgrade choice. However I shoot mainly for fun, can't really justify spending the money for an improvement in image quality for now, so I've decided to continue...

Newbie Looking for 1st DSLR (D90 or D5100)

Just like to share my experience... I started photography last year after a getting a D5000 (considered to be an entry-level body) with 18-55mm kit lens + 70-300mm G, and the latter won't autofocus with D5000. (whole set was given to me as a present) Within a few months I found the specs of the...
