I agree with this. I bought a 16-35 after testing 14-24 and 17-35. It's the most utilised lens for me (landscape and event) though I also own a 24-70.

I concur with you Luminare.
I always have 16-35mm F/4 on my D700 most of the time, with 50mm and another m3/4 system with 45-175mm in my small bag. So virtually I can cover wide, low light and zoom using a reasonably light weight combo.
