New article: How to build a pro synch cord.

Hey guys, I had promised I would post when the PC cord article was up. It is in two parts, and they are both up on my blog, starting here.

Hi-Tech CEO with a Cardboard Snoot

Thanks, guys. As I put up portraits or photos with techniques that would be applicable to the ClupSNAP crowd, I will post links. My goal is to teach as many young shooters about good quality flash as possible.

Hi-Tech CEO with a Cardboard Snoot

I made this portrait for my newspaper of a hi-tech CEO by using a small, shoe-mount flash (off camera) with a homemade cardboard snoot. There is an article on how it was done on my blog, in the "On Assignment" section, here. There is another article on how to make and use snoots to...

Blog for off-camera, small strobe lighting

Hey, man! I wore out my yellow copy of "Adventures in Location Lighting" as a green horn. BTW, the second of three "practicing with flash" articles is now up, just for PC. http://www.strobist.blogspot.com It's "Lighting 101: See the Flash" in case other posts have pushed it down by the...

Uh, I don't think so.... But, just for you, the first of three articles on the philosophy of practice and experimentation. The next two will be more in line with your needs, (far too long for one post) but chew on this for a bit...

PC- Funny you should mention that. I am on the road for a couple of days doing a story on the Miss USA pageant (sigh, SOMEONE has to do it, right?) so I am time and bandwidth (using cellphone) crunched. But I am planning a looong post on exactly what you are talking about...

To answer your questions more specifically, the umbrella is 43" wide, but double-folds down to the size you see next to the very small light stand in the photo on the traveling light page. Folded, you can see it ball bungee'd (the red things) to the light stand. The ball bungees are something...

    Flash for D1H

I shoot professionally with 2 D2h's. You do not need to shell out for an sb800. I would suggest using any flash which offers a PC synch and manual control. But more importantly, learning to use it off camera. That is the biggest difference between amatuers and pro's that I have seen. There is...
