I also have a Nikon 5700 and have learned that in my situation, I have to take the camara into manual mode, set the camera into a 400 ASI setting and perform "Manual Focus" to obtain the ultimate pictures.

I'm almost in the same boat, mate. I am trying to photograph my daughter in a gymnasuim doing "Dance" with a 70 member team. Action and at a distance in the stands. I'm looking at your advice.
