$649 for sb-800 is really a rip off, i got my SB-900 from john3:16 for $630 around 2 months back... O_O

i personally have the 50mm you bought, typically... it's ok to take picture of bigger flowers... insects.. it's not possible because you have to focus at least 45cm away from the subject... i think she just wants to sell it off lah... but it's still a good lens to have for low light photography...

i think the film is still usable... i remember reading on cs someone finished finally managed to finish his roll of film after a year... so i guess it is still usable...

nikon cafe do not allow the use of hotmail... and probably some others, i have successfully registered using my singnet mail and it was a success... maybe you guys try Gmail? or email the administrator...

my raynox is bought from MS.... i can't remember... i think it was $120 or so... call them to check lah... haha :P to me... 50mm is quite versatile for macro already lah, unless really seriously into macro, then get dedicated macro lens lor.. i'm aiming for tamron 90mm... haha...

the closest focus distance of this lens is 45cm, it's not really macro... but with a raynox macro conversion, it's quite workable, kenko extension tube is another way as well... below are picture i anyhow took to demostrate 50mm F1.8D with raynox DCR-250... i know it's not very pretty, but give...

SB 400 is alittle limited as there is no CLS, on the other hand, SB600 actually let you rotate the flash head, has CLS, and is more powerful, but of course, it cost more... ;) if i were you, i will save up for a SB600 instead of getting a SB400...

problem is i believe with the shadow cast by the lens because of the length, the only way to solve is either, do not use flash on 18mm, i'm not exactly sure until which focal length will the shadow disappear... or use a speedlight ;)
