Monitor profiling/calibration on Macbook and ext LCD monitor

I did the calibration of both my MacBook Pro and an external Dell 2408WFP Ultrasharp 24 inch display using the i1Display2 color calibrator. The MacBook was fairly easy to do, but the Dell took a lot of messing with settings as it was extremely bright and saturated out of the box. I posted what I...

which photo editing programme do you use?

That's a big call. And I think the quality of the output image depends more on the input image and the post-processing (with whatever software) skills of the photographer. Many professional photographers use Aperture and get amazing results. I'm pretty sure they'd switch to something else if...

    metering modes.

That's pretty much what I do for most of my shots. I suggest you take the same image with all metering modes and see what they do and which works best for you for a given situation. It's the best way to learn. Although it sounds like you're already doing that! ;)

    LX3 Users Discussion.

I don't think LR can read the camera settings, maybe Silkypix can. Usually only the "official" software can read the camera settings in RAW files (for example, my Nikon's NEF files look bland in Aperture and LR, but look great in CaptureNX, which reads the settings and applies them to the RAW...

    Converting Raw To JPEG

If all you're doing with your RAW files is increase the sharpness you're better off shooting in JPEG and just let it be. As others have said... oversharpening causes the files to look terrible. Subtle is better.

    Raw / jpeg.

I just wrote an article on my site about RAW vs. JPEG with a table explaining the differences if you're interested. It's obviously my point of view only and not everyone will agree, but I just decided that shooting exclusively in RAW (as I've done for the past 3 years) is definitely not the best...

    RAW or Jpeg?

In around 2006 I decided to shoot everything in RAW because I wanted to have the best possible quality and all the possible information in the file. However, a few weeks ago I was going through my library and realized I had thousands of photographs that I just saved "for later editing" and never...

    metering modes.

True... but if you do that you will: 1. Never learn about exposure and how to quickly and intuitively change it to get what you want, and 2. Won't be able to shoot quickly without relying on the LCD screen. Which means for every shot you take you need to take one just to see if it came out...

    metering modes.

Understanding metering modes takes a little reading and a lot of practice. Once you've played a few times with them you'll get the idea and understand which one works in which situation. We actually just wrote a short article about this at shutterstation.com if you're interested. As someone...
