what type of lens should i buy form astrophotography

Depends on what sort of night sky objects you want to shoot. Personally I use a Nikon 28mm f2.8 Ai-S lens. It costs about 400 dollars used (two years ago).

Wow I didn't know you could do it this way! Thanks for sharing!

The most direct way would be to use a screw on star effect filter as shown in the link below. I believe it can be also done using post processing techniques. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/397744-REG/Formatt_BF_77_STAR8PT.html

Crop factor with ISO, aperture and focal length

Strictly speaking the manufacturers are not lying. However they are not telling the complete truth either. I think the problem arises really due to the reduction in sensor size, i.e. you take a photo on a smaller sensor and then enlarge it to the same size as an image taken from a larger...

    Moving to FF...

Personally I would choose 6D. It's cheaper, lighter and also because I don't need some of the features of the 5D3 such as better weather sealing or that many autofocus points etc.

Very nice lighting. May I know the lighting setup used?

    Moving to FF...

Please consider very carefully why you really need (not want!) a full frame body before buying one. As you have already pointed out it is a huge investment. Also as far as most photographers are concerned, full frame is not what one should be aiming for. Rather, most photographers I know make...

    Self Drive in NZ

May I suggest taking a trip to White Island? http://www.whiteisland.co.nz/ It is a guided tour where you get to visit an actual marine volcanic island off the coast of Whakatane (about 5 hours drive from Auckland). However the boat trip from Whakatane to the island itself is about 4 hours, and...

    Landscape Photoraphy

With regards to photo editing software, if you are unwilling to pay for Adobe products, there are a number of free applications available. Well known examples are Picasa and Gimp.

    Landscape Photoraphy

Image 1 - Probably post processed in an image editing software by "editing" the other colours out except for the yellows. Image 2 - A lot of beautiful landscape images are the result of waiting (possibly for hours on end) just for the right moment where the light is most beautiful, i.e. colour...

    Group Portraiture -- Anson Photography

I think the non-white dresses in the closet are sort of distracting... Also I'm guessing the dominant light source here was window light?

    24-70mm f/2.8G

If you're not planning to switch to Full frame anytime in the near future, I would suggest 17-55 instead. 24mm on DX is quite tight and you won't be able to pull off some "wide angle" shots which you can get with at 17mm.

    Is this normal for D700?

I have faced the same light banding problem as in your photos with my D700, realised that this occurs when I was using very high ISO while shooting in the dark with bright point sources. Perhaps trying with a lower ISO but longer exposure time might help resolve or reduce this problem.
