I have the Samyang (Opteka version). It suffers badly from the common missaligned focus problem. Infinity focus is at 1.5m. At any other setting, my pics are blurred. There is a relatively easy fix for this involving folding back the rubber on the lens barrel and adjusting 3 screws. If you could...
Ahhh Phuket...home of the taxi mafia.
Unlike the rest of Thailand where metered taxis are extremely cheap,
getting around Phuket is a total rip-off.
Just budget for it.
MBK has a mix of proper camera stores and small stalls selling grey imports.
Not really cheap, but the stores have a good range of stock, and the small sellers of grey imports can offer a bargain. Depends on how much risk you wanna take.
Yes, works fine. Need to get used to stop down metering though. Focus wide open, then stop down to desired apeture.
And I don't mind manual focusing, it forces me to slow down and think more about compostion.
An unexpected bonus is that Depth of Field is easy to see on the rear LCD screen.
Goldie, yes the Rain Cape pretty much is a plastic bag :D, but stronger.
I have never used the Rain Cape but I have used a high end (and expensive) Ewa-Marine underwater camera housing which was excellent. So I would trust this brand.
It really depends on how wet you expect your camera to get.
