    Hi. It took 12 days.

    Tamron 17-50mm F/2.8 or Nikon AF-S 18-105mm F/3.5-5.6

I just changed from a 18-70 kit lens (comparable optics to the 18-105) to the Tamrom 17-55 VC. The Tamron is in a different class, sharp wide-open and pretty well sharp no matter what focal length or aperture I use. *However*, as noted above, be careful of focussing issues. My copy had an...

    JB trip with Nikon D700

Perhaps, but P&S costs a lot less to replace.

    D70 vs D40

I took my D70 to Tibet a couple of years ago. I'm a big fan of low-light photography, including under-exposing scenes in order to catch the feel of the light. The temples of Tibet offer some great opportunities for this. The problem is that the sensor of the D70 performs badly in terms of...

worth to pay $300 for a extra 4 year NCS warranty?

Not worth it for a D90. Most defects will become apparent within the warranty. Should you be unlucky and require a repair out of warranty then most can be done for < $300.

    Lens for taking baby photos

All things being equal, the 35mm is a lot more practical than the 50mm on a DX lens. I can't comment on the quality of the 35mm since I've never tried one. What are you finding worse about the focussing with the 35mm? I've used the Sigma 30mm and really enjoyed the quality and sharpness. I...

    d90 or d300?

For me it comes down to one word: size and weight (okay, two words). That's the big stopper for me in getting the d300.

    Lens for taking baby photos

One thing to be factored in is focal length. The longer lenses are more susceptible to camera shake. You're less likely to have a blurry shot due to camera shake 17mm f/2.8 compared to 50mm f/1.8. I have the 50mm f/1.8 and the Tamron 17-50, and find the latter better suited for baby photos...

will D90 be replaced by another D??? soon

Following the trends for d70->d80->d90 I'd expect the successor to be announced around August 2010 followed by availability a while later.

50/1.8 or Tamron 17-50/2.8 for weddings?

A couple of other consideration for the discussion. While a 50mm f/1.8 gives you 1 1/3 extra stops over the 17-50 f/2.8, you need to up the shutter speed to compensate for camera shake with the higher focal length. You need to shoot at roughly 1/70 for the 50mm versus 1/25 at for the 17-50 at...

    HDB suffers S$2b deficit

I think I've figured it out. Let's say it costs 100k to build a flat. The market price is 300k, but HDB sell the flat for 200k. Somewhere along the line HDB needs to buy the flat from the govt at 300k, which is then countered with a subsidy of 100k. Therefore before subsidy the HDB has lost...

Any Idea why the Nikkor 18-70 lens is still so ex?

Love the 18-70, but the SWM has gone on mine, which would cost ~$200 to repair. I tested this lens against the 18-135, taken at the same focal lengths and apertures, and the results were close to identical.

Do i need to bring this 50mm f1.8 to calibrate?

It's difficult to tell whether the face is in focus from that picture - it's too smooth an area to make out the detail. Some have said not to expect full sharpness at f/1.8. That's true. However, you should still expect the focus point to be as intended. Lack of sharpness and being...

Very poor service from Alan Photo, Funan

I've had two bad experiences with AP. The first was at AP Funan. I went in with my friend looking to buy a D3 and 24-70. We were the only customers, but the salesmen just chatted amongst ourselves while we stared blankly at them waiting to be served. We walked out, and my friend spent his...
