    Japan crisis affecting lens/body/acc prices

don't need badly, don't buy.... Japanese are very resilient, with the crisis, all the more they want to recover & "catch-up"" fast. it's survival. businesses seem taking the opportunity to take higher margin of their ex-stock, or fear they might not have stock to sell for some time...

    My first DSLR...

15-85 will be a good start, wider at the wide-end, longer on the long-end (comparing standard zooms) it is a good compromise of the longer zoom-range, 18-200 is superzoom, superzooms usually compromise image quality. With inter-changeable lens option, you will eventually be tempted to...

    Upgrade to 7D or 5DII ?

budget - you have to consider the additional cost of buying another L lens (24-105/f4 or 24-70mm/f2.8), to replace if any aps-c lens or FF-compatible UWA lens (from the aps-c body setup). unless you happy using UWA everytime (on FF). pop-up flash - do you need it? no pop-up flash on 5D...

    Is this street ?

those are good examples of good composition & angle. street or beach....it is classified under Street & Candid... some might want to have more categories, like ""toilet photography"", if want to be very specific:bsmilie:

    Is this street ?

when you ask what is good or not good, it becomes technical....in order to analyse but if you already know the technical or theory, or come with experience, you just shoot better photos..... just compare your photos, your favorite shots vs your average shot, you will learn why (technically...

    Is this street ?

sent u a pm frankly, I don't like to use UWA or intend to buy one that most people hardly use, but at the wider-end the basics are the same as UWA, just that UWA is alot wider & more extreme in the foreground vs background (e.g. far objects become very tiny, while the foreground subject is...

    Is this street ?

agree it is not always about being close when using UWA. there are many aspects of a good UWA shot, as I mentioned. still, getting closer to a subject may improve the beach photos, if other aspects are lacking, like sense of dimension, scale or using distortion to advantage. but some of the...

    Is this street ?

whatever (voted "most irritating" word) the distance, the viewer is more interested in the result not the reason....i.e. so if not good, then it's not good, if distance is a concern, than use a tele, if cannot get closer, then try something else, another angle or another subject.... That's...

    Is this street ?

not becos it's not landscape, just that to use UWA for such shots, the angles, distance to subject, perspectives is very tricky. your UWA shots...the idea is there, some foreground ojects, but can be better, go closer, try different angles, rule of thirds, tilt the lens & see the difference, etc...

    Is this street ?

sure you can, it's candid or casual shots, street photography is not confined to the streets:) see the definition on wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Street_photography

    Is this street ?

it's a beach :bsmilie: beach or street or candid.... these ultra wide angle shots can be better with foreground subject, lines leading to something you want to bring the eye to and if you can create a sense of dimension, would be good for wide angle shots :)
