    maybe you would like to share what subject do u normally shoot... eg. babies, flowers, etc this will help to narrow down which compact camera is suitable for u... Qn. How compact do u want the camera to be? Eg. can be put into the pocket?

    TS, move on and get ur camera fixed... no point keep dwelling on the issue... Send to canon and settle it... take it as a lesson for yourself to be careful next time... Don't procrastinate until ur warranty is over... :)

    Good and cheap Dry Cabi +/-30L

    You might want to take a look at Giant or Carrefour. Sometimes, they might have discounted Dry Cabi. I got mine at Carrefour, i think I got mine ard $110 ~ $120, can't really remember as i got it 3 years back.
