I think the ziplock or bag method is useful say when you go out of the vehicle/hotel into the cold and use the camera. Condensation would occur rapidly should you bring the camera back into the vehicle/hotel...especially vehicle as heaters are usually turned on quite high then....so more on...

Will stick with original batteries. Third party don't work so well or last as long especially if you go somewhere colder. Do not use a base plate, just a strap. Enjoy!
