Thanks that really helps except for what happened to the 2 small black screws in image 1. I assume it is some sort of guard and they are just removed. Was horrified when I put my new 17-55 f2.8 on the body only to see a blob which then moved and was still there with othr lenses.

No idea how the blighter got there but as Katzeye do a screen for the D300 it must come out. Anyone know the procedure or got a link to a description please. thanks
