could be, if weather condition is normal (meaning not overly cloudy or hazy) - you can standby before sunset and catch the scenery at different times during sunset + a bit more time after that. The sky will be a more pleasing blue, instead of pitch black. Go shoot again, sure better.

definitely the time of the day. i usually stay away from shooting at midday. step out early morn, or later in the day.. the setting sun is much better.

quite ordinary picts, actually. I agree with the rest - these picts are 'tourist' photos, point and shoot. Maybe, once u get to know ur 'gf' better - you'll be able to post better shots :) frank comments, no offense yea.
