Enquiry on Sigma AF 10-20mm f/4-5.6 HSM EX DC

I have both Sigma 12-24 and 10 20. The 12-24 has to be used with tripod and stopped down to get the best results. Lack of distortion is impressive; so great for buildings. The 10-20 is wider, faster, more usable and can take filters (my min reason for purchase). Distortion is...

    Good flatbed scanner

The Epson 700 is an excellent scanner. I'd have no hesittion in reccomendng for slides and prints. Batch scans 12 slides at a time, has ICE and quality is close to what you would get from a dedicated film scanner The only downside is that it is a huge heavy lump

18-200mm VR lens converter/ filter for macro n tele

Don’t waste your time on a t/c with the 18-200. it was never designed for one and is pushing the boundaries of lens design anyway: so although a theoretical F8 might be possible with a 1.4t/c, in practice you will need F16 for sharpness. T/Cs work best for fast pro quality zoom or lenses and...

Should I sell my other lens to get Nikon 18-200mm??

The 18-200 VR is a useful lens; sharp enough and close focusing. The Wide angle distortion is a major probem for me and in practice VR on a slow lens is a waste of money . I considerd a Nikon 17-55 f2.8 but to save cash bought the 18-200 instead. I soon saw the error of my ways and now have...

    70-200mm or 80-200mm

Image quality between the 80-200 and 70-200 AFS VR is not significant. Once you start using a teleconverter, 1.4 or 1.7 AFS, the benefits of image stabilization become a lot more important. The 70-200F2.8 becomes a 280mm F4 or a 340mm F4.8 for the 1.7T /C . I like the flexibility of...

    Nikon new baby... A threat??

Why should the New D300 be a threat? It doesn’t make my S5 any less good as a result. It anything the new developments from Nikon can only be of benefit, after all if it wasn’t for the D200 the S5 wouldn’t have had such a good body build. If Nikon do eventually get a sensor that is...

FUJI S5 PRO with MB-D200 vertical grip.......

It is a bad deal from Fuji that you have to buy an extra grip. For a portrait photographers camera, the lack of second shutter release is seriously backward step. Also the design of the internal grip on D200/S5 doesn’t feel right at all. The S3 and S2 are far better to hold ...
