Hi there .. Yeah i do have both .. Let me reason a few things here.. I dont know how much knowledge you have about cameras.. DSLR or even SLR.. to be really honest .. Nikon FM10 is a classic camera.. any camera experts out there would say film camera will still give a better image than any DSLR cameras.. as film = grain and digital = pixel.. BUt handling a SLR camera is more tedious and to gain experience = more money spend bcos you can only see you product after developing your images. In learning process you have to keep carrying around a notepad to indicate your aperture and shutter and exposure compensation on each shot you take. Only to be happy or dejected if it fails.. Unlike DSLR where you can test and try on each shot till you are happy with the settings on the spot.
FM10 nikon is not expensive.. I saw someone posted that day to sell at about 200$ a second hand.
Now i get into D90 .. Honestly .. this camera rocks.. I was a D60 and D1 nikon user before.. Before D90 i was considering a D90/D3/D300/D700 .. Honestly .. D3 = Too expensive.. D700 = reasonable price for it latest technology and a D300 about at least 900$ more than a D90.. Ive been testing and going around with all those cameras.. and I finally decided for a D90 . reason being .. Technology based= D90 is far more advance than a D3, D300, almost as close as D700. The picture comparison on each camera is too far difficult to realised actually.. BUt with the price of a D90 it is still more worth it comparing to all those cameras..
So my advice is..
1) Get a D90 Body only . you can get a brand new at about $1200 + gst.
2) Make use of the lenses you said as long they can AF. The prime lenses are important if available.
3) Get a 18 - 200 mm VR lens. can get it at 2nd hand price from 600 - 900 $ at B/S
4) a Uv filter(Protection) + CPL ( Bright Outdoor shots ) recommended at least HOYA
5) an important gadget of all photo is a good Flash Light. The mounted one is useless cos it is restricted.
Sorry for being long winded.. but just giving you my ideas and recomendations... Consult me if you need some help .. then probably we can go and have some fun photo taking.. and exchange of ideas and knowledge..
