Could you explain what's the purpose of the closeup filter and why there's the +4 there?

I'm a canon a70 user and I've been experimenting on how to take beautiful close-up shots of creatures.I have seen other user's photos and the subject always looks sharp,focused and really close-up.Problem is,I can't get too close to my subject or else the image would appear really blur,I can't...

I like the 1st photo,very sharp and nice colours...but the 2nd shot looks over-exposed...pardon me if I'm wrong...the body of the spider looks a little too whitish...but overall really beautiful photos.

Umm...yea...I didn't zoom in and I got no attachment hehe...

I shot this at a tourist location overseas,the place was like a huge house with gardens and ponds filled with koi fish.So I happened to see this cute butterfly landing on the flowers and I quickly took out my a70 and turned on macro mode and tried shooting it with zoom,but the image was not...

So you are trying to say that with this closeup filter,I can zoom in on the subject in macro mode and the subject would be focused/not blurry?I do know that if I zoom in normally without any attachments,the subject wouldn't appear focused even though I turn on macro mode.Is this what you are...
