adding to what all have said, shooting at f1.4 requires getting use to. because DOF is shallow you could have gone off focus with a slight hand shift/shake. this is what i suspect since you mentioned you get sharp images sometimes and soft images at other occasions.

the only "funky" thing the guy told me was "if you want to buy better hurry stock is low ah!". which i can read from his expression that it was just a scare tactic...

hmm... that is very weird. i know i am not wrong. I was quoted $42xx and was told if pay by credit card plus 3% and if instalment another 2% which adds up to about $44xx... but cash is $42xx
