Sharing A Few Butterflies Part IV

Thanks. Thanks again. The wait WAS quite long: about 2 weeks from small to last stage of caterpillar then pupa. After that about ten days before eclosion. Sorry, I know this is not a butterfly forum, but how do you tell it's a female? Another one actually 'hatched' the day before (shown...

Sharing A Few Butterflies Part IV

Hi, the shots shared here are really beautiful. Thanks for sharing. Here's my contribution with my wonderful experience of seeing a butterfly emerge from the pupa.

    Canon S5 + Raynox 250

Good try but as you said there is a focusing problem. The lighting is also quite harsh probably because it's noon time. Need to wake up earlier ;) Keep shooting...

    P5100 Marcro Shots

Good job!! Where were they taken? - A little busy for the backgrounds like the #3 cricket but I guess that's hard to control with a P&S. - The spider background colour blends well with it.

When and where do you usually go? Am keen to train up some patience...have trouble with flitting butterflies. Stalk, setup..then butter flies away....stalk, setup, fly again....:sweatsm:

    Flowers and such..

Nice framing. Like the colours of #2, any idea what flower is that? For #1 did you try to lower depth of field so the background leaves are "blurrer"? If it is possible, you could change the angle of view so the background is cleaner - will help focus viewer eyes on subject. What lens is that?

Thks..was using Canon's EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM, but some shot are with an additional extension tube for higher magnification.

Like it a lot. If only mum's finger was more relaxed and thumb was caressing baby too.

    Some garden shots

Thanks for the encouragement. I do like shots that are super sharp but I have soft spot for shots that are less than perfect with some artistic bias. Am enjoying this forum, people here are encouraging yet objective ...this inspires improvement.
