    Goldfinch

Hi guys, Went out to RSPB Rainham Marshes today for a take. Was unusually quiet but near the visitor's centre I got to chance upon a number of Goldfinches (Carduelis carduelis). Here they are: #1 Canon EOS 50D 1/2000s f/7.1 at 420.0mm iso500 (Annoyingly the branch in the background...

    Blue Tit

Hey! Yeah, I've had quite a busy summer period... Didn't have any time at all for photography... I have my 500mm here in London, but decided to go tripod-less and stuck with my trusty old 300mm. Luckily I didn't bring the 500mm that day because there was nothing there at all! :)

    Blue Tit

Hi guys, Haha, well unfortunately or fortunately - whichever you see it - its name really is the Blue Tit. It is part of the Tit family. :) Cheers, Nick

    Blue Tit

Hi, Was a long time since I last got a chance to get my camera out. This time I decided to go down to RSPB Rye Meads as it was closest to me. There wasn't much, which was unusual for the day although there was this blue tit that was happily perched on a branch chirping away. Took a few...

    100mm f2.8L macro

If there's no stock on that L, you can always rely on the good ol' 100mm f2.8 non-L. It's still pin sharp at every aperture. Probably cheaper too.

    [night86mare] Dreamscapes: A Photo Daily 2009

Hey man, I guess you're from LSE yeah? Saw one of your pictures in the classroom in the New Academic Building. It's the one with the swan in the water. Cool stuff man... Cheers, Nick

Thanks, I actually desaturated the colours a little to accentuate the subject. Cheers, Nick

    Kylesku Bridge, Scotland

Hi all, After a rather enjoyable 7 hour drive through the Scottish Highlands starting from the Eilean Donan Castle, we approached Kylesku, a small fishing town famous for their seafood and before approaching the town we chanced upon the Kylesku Bridge, which was probably the only modern...

    Eilean Donan Castle, Scotland

Hi all, I was in Scotland a few weeks back and along the drive from Inverness to the Isle of Skye we passed by the Eilean Donan Castle, one of the most famous castles of Scotland. It is also one of the most photographed castles in the country. The tide was low that day and it wasn't the best...

    Black-tailed Godwit

Hi, Here's a shot of a Black-tailed Godwit (Limosa Limosa) I took a few weeks back. Please enjoy. Comments and critiques are most welcome. Regards, Nick

    Yellow-vented bulbul

You might want to focus on the eyes as the focal point of the whole picture. Your aperture should be smaller, like at f/8 or f/7.1 so that you get a deeper depth of view. Cheers, Nick

    Do you shoot RAW?

I always shoot RAW. The camera has a limited amount of time and processing power to convert the RAW image to a JPEG before storing it inside your memory card. If you shoot RAW, you can really take your time to slowly process the picture and the computer has much more power than the camera...

    Guillemot on takeoff

Hey guys, I was at John o'Groats in Scotland a few weeks back and decided to take one of them high speed boat rides. We stopped by a bunch of guillemots and apparently this was their runway. The sea was very rough that day so most of the time I was getting half a guillemot, the sky or the...

Little Pied Cormorant aka Little Shag (Cottesloe Beach, Western Australia)

I like both pictures, although I think for the 2nd picture you could get rid of the top third as it's a bit distracting. Cheers, Nick
