For any type of trips.. I'd suggest an UWA (scenics), Telephoto (street, wildlife etc) & Prime (low light)
But in your case, 10-22 & 85 1.8 would be ideal.
Btw, a lightweight travel tripod would also be useful for self-portraits & long exposure~
There are rumours of a Sony 10-24.. then again, "rumoured"
11-18 i find quite limited in focal length and not worth the price.. If only there was a Sony mount Tokina 11-16 2.8.. sigh.
Though, I'd pick a Sigma 12-24 any day! xD
DSLR for portrait photography..??
Depends on the type of conditions you are gonna shoot ur "portrait" in?
All DSLRs are portrait capable, its the lenses that matter most.
Personally, I love the location
Needs more feel of "isolation" to it & a tad bit darker..
Maybe a early evening or night shoot would have been much affective? Xp
Just sharing my thoughts as a n00b~
Mostly used for very low-light photography + flashless
1.4 tends to bokeh out too much even for full-body portraits.
F2-F4 is just perfect for sharpness~
I think you could just ask your photographer friend to take some shots for you.
OR
invest on a DLSR body + 50mm 1.8 (get to it straight away, LOL)
say a canon 1000D or 450D to compliment your IXUS
flashless shooting with babies is much preferrable than bounce-flashing.
Just an advise. Dun make it obvious you're carrying something valueable. Slinging the bag in front of you will definitely draw attention. A secure backpack or a beltpack eases the situation abit.
Then agen, it depends on how much gear you'd be carrying ;p
I had this dilemma before~ & I have this camera bag fetish :embrass:
Personally, im not much of a fan to slingshots.
Shoulder bags, are awesomely versatile but not recommended if you're gonna do alot of walking. My travel shoulder bag is a Crumpler 7mdh. Cut out weight if you plan to use...
Thanks guys, your input has proven much value to me.
What I am actually deciding right now is which to get first? (& for pricing to hopefully drop)
These two lenses are part of my wishlist and yes, I know what they are capable off, just not sure which to get first.
I'd sure love to get...
Why not use custom focus points?
You can pre-select where ur focus would be even at 2.8 ( I use this on my 1.4)
Wide Focus points will require bursting since the focus takes time to lock. (useful for my hip-shots)
OR..
You can aim at ur subject with purposely OOF-ing and focus on sth...
Most Important would be a good quality blower.
Other protection: UV filter & Screen protector. Can wipe with any soft cloth.
Then agen I've space in my bag, so I bring the whole cleanig kit. :D
