Any bros heard and know anything about this new Nikon lens. It is supposed to be perfect for long telephoto shots in dim light.

You would need a good wide angle lens. Try the 12-24 DX which costs about S$1600.

I would recommend a Nikon 12-24 DX since you have a D70 and the kit lens. If you want a good travel zoom lens, the Sigma Macro 70-300 should be good enough. Otherwise, go ahead and splurge on the Nikon 70-200 VR (but it cost and weight alot). my two cents.....

Focusing on the question of either a 300D or D70, I personally feel that the D70 will provide more bang for the buck. It is more feature laden compared to the 300D which is more designed by Canon to be a 'point and shoot' camera, most of the time. Alot of shutterbugs have a habit of pledging...

A manfotto like what bro Acidbyte recommend would be good enough. I have a D70 with a Gitzo CF tripod because I also use heavy lens like the 70-200VR. I have no complaints about the Gitzo though, although it is abit expensive. my 2 cents... :)

I am currently in HK and have just visited Wing Shing. The SB800 is offering at about $580 and the 70-200VR is at about $2700. Seems like a good buy.

Was recently approached by someone who was offering Nikon equipment, body and lens at good prices, at least 20-30% discount from the best offers from CP, AP, Lords, TCW etc. What's the catch? These sets are imported from overseas. Would appreicate if any bros have any experience buying these...

After weeks of deliberating and thinking, finally bought the Nikon 12-24 DX from Lords for $1620. Looking forward to test the lens this weekend in Hong Kong. Next target: 70-200mm VR. Then I think I am done (financially that is!). BTW, while in HK, the 70-200 VR was quoted for only $2560...

The Nikon 70-200 VR is about $3,000 at Lords (Lucky Plaza) and about $3200 at CP. Dunno about Canon. Just came back from HK and the 70-200 VR is selling for S$2600 only, with international warranty. Very tempted to get one there, going next week. :) :)

D2Hpeter A good tripod is the Gitzo carbon fiber tripod available at CP. Price about $600 upwards. You would need to find a ball head for it though. It is an expensive hobby. BTW, if you are into printing, then a good laptop (like Apple Powerbook) and printer (like Canon 9950) would set you...

Any bros out there at Marina bay or near the vincinity, know how's the weather there? Is it raining? is it worth a trip down for phototaking.

You can do a search for the lens. BTW, I just recently bought the Sigma macro lens and it is real good. No problems working with the D70. Cost about $300 to $350 for new. Quite a number of bros in the forum have the lens and may be tempted to sell you if you post a thread to buy.

It seems that compared with the new Sigma 12-24, the Nikon has only slightly better sharpness and constrast and is abit faster but in terms of chromatic aberation, both lens are about the same. I am only thinking of the price premium for the Nikon over the Sigma just for the above mentioned...
