    Official Plane Spotting Thread III

Yes, was actually in two minds about going until I heard the Indonesian Flankers were coming. After that, there was no debate about the (expensive) trip north from Melbourne. All weapons were dummy weapons during the exercise. To my knowledge there was no live firing this time round. No...

Thank you! Ok, this is something that I didn't get a chance to spend time on due to circumstances beyond my control, but I've finally edited a set of photos from Exercise Pitch Black 2012. I was honoured to be a guest of the Royal Australian AF at RAAF Base Darwin for a couple of days in...

This was taken back in 2012. US Air Force F-16CM (Block 40) Fighting Falcon/Viper s/n 88-0489 of the 8th Fighter Wing/35th Fighter Sqn "Pantons" landing at Paya Lebar. The 8th FW "Wolf Pack" were in Singapore for a Commando Sling.

Are they here for an exercise with the RSAF?

Haha not potong jalan. The RSAF Stratotankers (and Fokkers) have to execute short finals when landing on 20C/20R at Changi because as RSAF aircraft, are not allowed into M'sian airspace without prior permission. And to do a long approach into Runway 20 means they'll need to go into M'sian airspace.

Very nice catch Orion! Very disappointed that the RSAF never publicizes these last flights, the enthusiasts always miss out on seeing/photographing these events.

I wish it were my full time job; unfortunately this is just a hobby which I get the occasional payment for to offset a (tiny) part of the costs when my photos get published...

Some photos from the excellent USAF Air Combat Command F-22 Raptor demonstration that was the highlight of this year's Avalon Airshow in Australia. Sadly all future demonstrations by the Raptor have been put on hold indefinitely after the USAF cancelled all aircraft flybys, demonstrations and...

Not strictly plane spotting, but I was one of a group invited by the Royal Australian Air Force to fly on one of their KC-30 MRTT tankers as it refueled a pair of F/A-18 Hornets southeast of Melbourne. Here's a blog post about the flight which includes high-res photos and a video highlights...

Yup. Used a pair of 7Ds. One had the 400mm 5.6 prime (good guess syc77) and the other had 70-200mm f4L w/ 1.4x TC. Here's a some quick thoughts of shooting at the show, and more pics of the F-15/F-16 and MiG-29.

Not strictly planespotting but related, there is a feature on the RSAF's Northrop F-5 Tiger IIs in the March 2011 edition of Air Forces Monthly written by yours truly. As far as I'm aware, the issue is now on sale at some places in Singapore, so if interested, do buy a copy!

Sorry bro, no Panasonic gear yet as we are currently focused on building up the Canon and Nikon stock first as the DSLR market here is predominantly these two brands. Are you in Melbourne already! Also, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone! Hope you have a great 2011! (which wouldn't...
