I can't compare between the 2- but the tammy performs well on a canon- in terms of sharpness and colour. As compared to the 17-55 by Canon- the colours are a tad less contrasty- but it performs well by any standards. No regrets buying it.

I second what Octarine said- if you can't differentiate the different functions a wide angle and a macro lens have, odds are its more prudent for the TS to read up more and determine what exactly he wants to shoot before splurging hard earned cash on a lens.
