What mode are you using? The A(uto) mode will select the nearest focus. Maybe can try P mode and select the middle focus point in the viewfinder and then lock it like talisman said. :)

Ehh...I didn't change it. Was at default. So should be 6 sec. I hope it was not due to how long the meter is on. I had a habit of always give the shutter release a light tap to turn the meter on although I don't need the meter at the time :( Think better change that habit urgently liao...

Ehhh, forgot to mention the above occur out door in the afternoon. Hot. Shots remain counter ok. it shows the number of shot remaining. This happen indoors in aircon. Film counter shows 'E' (error).
